Hey all:)
How does the game handle patches? Does it automatically download and install them, or do I have to do it manually?
I am referring to the 1.01 patch. I'm just now sure how to proceed.
Thks for any input:)

I myself installed the patch manually. No problems.
A friend of mine did and his play button did not respond...
Make a backup, try it, if not, restore the files.

I bought the retail game. I downloaded the patch from Steam. I installed the retail game. I ran the patch, without even running the game, to disaster. The game would not run. I had to un-install the game, and re-install without any patching whatsoever..Now the game runs. I have the patch, and I soooo much wanna run it, immediately after my successful install, but not sure.. Should I run the patch or not???

My previous post confusing..
Here is fact...
IF YOU INSTALL THE GAME, BUT NEVER LAUNCH IT, THEN RUN THE PATCH, THEN TRY TO LAUNCH THE GAME, IT WON'T LAUNCH.

I wish Bioware would give an official response about the 1.01 patch.
Currently I'm not installing it.
The official channel : EA support page -> patches , lists nothing.
So nothing I shall install.

When I try to make a shortcut throu the configuration utility I also get this responce:
You don’t seem to have the proper rights. Try login as Admin or the run as administrator option. (-2147024891)

Go to My Documents\\Bioware\\DragonAge and copy your game save files, and rienstall the game from scratch. You can then copy those files into that path and your game is still working. I'm doing this now...will report back.

I have having the same issue. I played through the wilds on the original, CD retail version. I patched the game today to 1.01a which was downloaded from gamershell. Now the play button doesn't work. The Vista loading icon briefly displays for a few seconds and then goes away and no response.

I agree - don't install the patch.
Even though I'm crashing randomly to desktop quite often - at least I could play.
After that patch - the game won't even launch.

The below message is from anotehr thread. I launch button problem after patch but got it to work again after applying the patch
The main issue that people seem to be having is that the patch is built with a newer version of a Microsoft library than what DAO originally installs. You can find the latest version here, the x86 version.

Wiz33, do you know which one should be installed for Vista x64?
This one under the File Name section, vcredist_x64.exe?
