Where are we to get the "official" patch? I can;t find it on the Bioware site. I have only seen it on 3rd party sites such as gamespot.

Yes, yes I know it's not recommended, but for future use, where are we to go to get the patches?

Thanks,
Apco25

Bah - this link points to a 2005 C++ service pack 1 issue, I am not confident this will be a fix and I will not be the guinea pig

Ignore jdtope, you can patch just fine, but DON'T put the steam patch on a retail copy. Steam, Direct2Drive and the like all use their own custom system for patching and applying said patches which tend to make them incompatable.

Downloading and installing the following should allow continued functioning.

Microsoft C++ update: http://www.microsoft...&displaylang=en

Patch: http://social.biowar...ame_patches.php

The below message is from anotehr thread. I launch button problem after patch but got it to work again after applying the patch

The main issue that people seem to be having is that the patch is built with a newer version of a Microsoft library than what DAO originally installs. You can find the latest version here, the x86 version.

Bah - this points to a 2005 service pack 1 issue, not convinced..

GeiO, you may have to redownload them, but as long as you're using the same EA account you'll be fine

I only have Vista 32 on my system so I DL'ed and installed the x86 version. I don't know if that will work on the Vista 64 or you'll need the x64 version of the patch.

Ok thanks. Just waiting too see if the download works for jdtope, then i try that myself. Otherwise I just have to reinstall the game again without the patch.

Does downloading this work on a retail copy also?

I downloaded the 64 bit version of the microsoft update and, unfortunately it did not fix my issue. The play button still does not respond. I restarted my computer as well, and it still didn't work.

Above links point to security issues and basically, a bunch of BS. This game was released 3 days ago. Even though we ALL LOVE patches, my honest opinion is that there is no official Bioware patch, we are all being suckers, myself especially since I have had to install and reinstall 3 times costing me 7 hours on my only day off this month... There is NO PATCH..Yet.. DO NOT PATCH THIS GAME NOW

The VC redistributable fixes the problem. I think you need the x86 one only.

The patch linked to above is from this site. I'm pretty sure it's legit.

if you have a 64bit-OS you MUST use the x64 version patch

DO NOT TRY TO PATCH. Any downloadable patches are hackers #*&%(*# BS Mother FU&*^(&*#^%(&# attempts to infiltrate your operating system. I hate mean people. Wait for an official patch from Bioware or EA Arts - these are reputable companies and if Dargon Age gets patched, they will make it freely and widely available. So FU JohronGrad and other hackers

Eloj is correct. Even if you have a x64 bit machine, download the x86 Microsoft VC and it will cause the play button to work. My game now works even after the 1.01a patch (which I dled from gamershell). Thanks for the help everyone.

Exactly what I did.  Installed game, played for a few hours, patched to 1.01a, play button failed to work, dled x64 version of the Microsoft link posted in this forum, tried game but play button still failed, dled x86 version of file, play button worked.

Evidence? I will call that wrong based on empirical testing.

If you have windows update - there would be no need to download a windows patch from 2005 for service pack 1. Don;t believe any of these hackers - there is no patch

Calm down, the game patch is legit, it's just that they forgot a dependancy and then didn't test it properly (it's like fallout 3 all over again).

I do think it's a bit odd that we don't have an easy 'update' function in the launcher like NWN had.

not to mention if you're running Windows 7...Ironically I never have any "play" button issues, (though my "games" shortcut did stop working, but I just made my own). I'm running Win7-64 bit RC 7100.

OK I got this to work. I uninstalled but saved my character and settings files in a folder on my desktop. When you uninstall however you get the opportunity to not delete them, but I backed up even so.

I installed the c+++ fix that was linked, the x86 version.

I reinstalled the game, logged in and redownloaded the DLC (I couldn't start my saved game without it, it required those for some reason even though I didn't do the quests yet).

I then installed the patch from this download (Bioware's link, not steam or gamespot or whatever): http://social.biowar...ame_patches.php

All is working for me now. Sigh...hope that helps others. No idea if the x86 file was needed, but I tried it anyway.
