Thanks people for having posted the link to the patch.

Would be nice to have a big fat link somewhere on the front page instead of searching threads like this one.

aye, looks fine to me but being the overly cautious type i'm going to wait for bioware's "big fat link" as someone put it, going to be fairly busy over the weekend so i can put off starting properly on DA:O for a little bit. Still shooting my way across "Borderlands" too, so many games....

is 1.01a the same as 1.01?

1.01a is the patch that you can get from the bioware link... if there is a 1.01 maybe it was replaced by 1.01a (that's normally how patching is labeled afterall.)

History...
1) Downloaded patch from Steam.
2) Went to Gamestop, bought game.
3) Installed game, never launched it.
4) Ran the patch
5) Launched Game, clicking 'PLAY' did nothing
6) Un-installed the game
7) Re-installed the game
8) Launched the game
9) Game working
10) closed the game
11) Ran the patch
12) Tried to run the game
13) Once again, the 'PLAY' button is worthless, game wont launch.
14) Patch SUUUCCCKKKSSSSSS

why did you download the patch from steam if you bought the retail version?

Yeah, this is a separate issue. The patch also updates a resource used by Vista/Win7's Games Explorer, and the new version of the resource is broken or improperly installed. If you wanted to, you can replace the new version with the one on the install disc/package. The file you want is daoriginsgdf.dll.

So, having installed the patch and the toolset, my characters can no longer level up. The + icon is there, but I can't access the level up from within the character screen or from the regular walking around screen. This is on a game created before the patch AND on one that I just started.

I just tried downloading the patch from the Bioware link listed above, and my Avira anti-virus just said there was a confirmed trojan bundled with the download. WTF? Anyone else experience this?

Do you mean the display of the bonus that the Memory Band gives? Because it has never shown for me in version 1.0.

Avira anti-virus marks this patch as a trojan. And Besides the link posted by some people, I can´t get to this page by normally going through any Bioware or DAO site. So what to do? I would like a patch that my anti-virus and other protections don´t classify as a trojan.

Well..Avast didn't mark it as such...and...well I trust Avast, so..it must be Avira (whom I've never heard of).

It wouldn't be the first time that an antivirus is wrong, you know. Just saying.

In case anyone is interested, the supposed trojan is: TR/Crypt.ZPACK.Gen2

Anyone familiar with it/heard of it?

Right click and hold on the item in inventory.  A radial menu appears with "Examine".

What's the general consensus? Patch or wait for a 1.02?

Well, check CNET (download.com) and see that avira is their highest graded anti-virus. But it´s true. Anti-virus sometimes get false positives. But I would like to see some official Bioware announcement with it, and something about this virus thing before I play with it. :)
