I happen to really love the gameplay of Adrenaline rush and Pistols, is it really viable at higher levels of difficulty, or I ll be forced to use Assault rifle later ?

It's hard to imagine you'd have enough ammo with just a pistol. Maybe if you went Commando, had all +weapon damage parts on your armour, only fired in Adrenaline Rush, always scored a head shot, used Tungsten rounds and used your allies to strip enemy defenses you could swing it.
