Granted I've seen mass effect 2 for £199 with an xbox 360 elite. But I'd rather pay the £40 or so for a ps3 version that I know is going to look insane. PC's need to be at least £600+ to play ME2 in full HD at optimum settings.

I take it that you think the PS3 version would look better? I'm sorry, but that's a misconception and flat out false.

a) blu-ray although a larger storage format than DVD suffer from slower read spead. This means that even with larger textures you won't be able to load it fast enough unless you do some serious planning and do pre-planned data streaming or do a large install

PS3 only has 256MB graphics memory (360 has unified memory and allocate up to 512MB to graphics) and that is often why on multi-platform games you see the 360 have higher resolution textures.

c) The Cell processor is a pain to program for, because not only does it rely on parallelism, but worse you have to fit all your calculations on these half CPU's with tiny memory foot print. They are extremely fast on certain types of calculations, but causes it to be difficult to code for. When people say difficult, it is just not hard, but also extremely time consuming!

d) Only games that is specifically made for the PS3 that really compensates for the PS3s weaknesses will look as good or better than the 360.

We don't have Hard Rain or Uncharted 2, and PS3 owners won't get Mass Effect. Fair deal to me.

It's ultimately an issue of market share and profit. The 360 has a much larger established userbase than the PS3 (due to a variety of issues ranging from initial release performance and pricing to ease of development), which makes it a much more valuable target than the PS3, if a developer has to pick one. The development time is another issue, since programmers don't have to change their way of thinking to go from PC to 360 platform, where the PS3 and its Cell architecture is significantly different from PC development.



Bottom line - it's a catch 22 for PS3 owners. Companies want to target the most people via the least effort, and because of this, less games hit the PS3 than the 360. Petitioning historically doesn't change anything nor convinces publishers / developers to hit a platform they otherwise weren't considering, simply because it's not an issue of ignorance on the developer's part.

Just how crap is your PC ?  I have two PC's here and Mass Effect 1 runs at a constant 60fps at 1680 x 1050 this is compared to your xbox 360 version which only runs at 1280 x 720 @ 30fps.  Even Mass Effect 2 runs at 1680 x 1050 on both my PC's at 60fps.  Don't be hating the PC version because you have a subpar PC.

As for the PS3 version I don't do petitions, naturally it isn't fair that the PS3 doesn't get this game.  However it is equally unfair that no one else gets to play PS3 exclusives but that is life. 

If you really want to play this game then just slap a decent video card in your PC and away you go it will be much better than the PS3 version would be.

Oh and before you all go "I am not gonna pay a gazillion pounds for a graphics card" all you will need to max this game out at OVER 30fps is this card :-

Why would sony the publisher of both games release it to its competition

We are talking about an EA game not a Sony game

Xbox deserves an exclusive title. Playstation Had an exclusive deal with every version of Final Fantasy up to the one coming out in March. It's someone elses turn to have somthing great.
