Just played through ME1 and ME2 one after another and my first knee-jerk reaction to ME2 was that I hate it. After I had played it a bit more and now after being through it once I've to admit I very much prefer ME2 over ME1.
  • ME2 introduced a way to research upgrades which is certainly better than going through your inventory every few encounters. I just hoped there were more upgrades and more weapon specific upgrades. More "stat ******" for me.
  • ME2 introduced a streamlined skilltree but I personally didn't care much for that. I like spending points on a lot of abilities and powers. It's not all bad but see the "stat ******" above.
  • ME2 introduced exploring space with Normandy which is very fun. I hope ME3 also introduces space battles with controllable Normandy, space anomalies, and hidden systems. In fact I'd prefer space battles over controllable Mako.
  • ME2 did away with the god dang awful pointless planet exploration and moved the resource hunting to space which is alright. I like planet exploration but hated struggling through the terrain with Mako. Hours spent on mapping the planets quickly grew annoying.
  • ME2 introduced new skill games (bypass, hacking) which is all good. I like them and they certainly aren't too hard to complete. I mean you really need effort to fail a hack or bypass. I do realise not all enjoy them so I think omitting the omni-gel bypass was not a good idea.
  • ME2 also introduced ammo and while I don't hate it, I preferred the overheating method. There were quite a few times when I ran out of ammo in initial plays and had to rely on biotics alone (Vanguard being my primary).
Love scaling enemies too so that the difficulty stays pretty much the same throughout the game. Not too hard nor too easy. Even more I love fast-paced combat and biotics - and how you can instakill enemies with proper use of them. I got concerned that "lift" and "throw" were not there but luckily they were. Fun.

Actually I like ME2 (and ME1) because the fast paced combat combined with excellent story. It seems like standard is to either have FPS with no story and no character progression or RPG with slower combat. Most RPGs feel like you are some distant force controlling a team and you merely give them tactical commands, most FPS feel like they are combat simulators. ME2 specifically gives me more of a feeling like I'm Shepard, like my skills as a player matter and just not character stats, without sacrificing the story and still appealing to the part that enjoys new shinies (be they ability upgrades or items).

All in all, I like, a lot. I wish there was Mass Effect MMO with exactly same combat system. Too many MMOS (all current ones?) rely on the old "stand in the open and exchange spells/bullets while healer keeps you alive" method. What I'd really love to see is fantasy or scifi multiplayer shooter with PvE quests, exploration and character progression.

I enjoy the game it have changes but still good as usually.People complaing to much if is not elevators..is the mako..is if not the mako is the skills...personally im glad that they remove the elevator now we dont have the anyoning load times on the normandy...and glad to for the mako that sometimes get stuck in missions on planets.About the skills im soldier i didnt have to use that much...but i can tell you with just 1 skill you can do a lot..but there is no problem at adding a bit more. But there is no reason to say stuff like this "BRING BACK THE RPG" or "BIOWARE KILL THE RPG" ..is pointless maybe you didnt like the game doesnt mean is bad.

while i agree with having more armor customization and armor customization for party members,i feel that this whole thread is basically a "bring back overload of weapons with only 3 useable, levelup system with millions of points to spend only to see 0.0005% improvement (while there were only 3 skill levels in me1, really) and mako exploration (that really gets boring after the first few planets, after you remember all the corridors)", and that's not "bringing back the RPG", it's just like saying "do the game the way I want it to be, and not the rest of the players out there". fine, there could be some more weapons (although the ones that we have access to right now are trully different, and have different playstyle) - but there are more DLC to come. as for the levelup system - could be more skills for party members, but that would make some of them almost godlike and would void the necessity of bringing others. with the system as it is now, there really is a need for strategy and tactics during the battle, and bringing the team that does not suit the situation may make the mission impossible to finish. i don't remember this being the case in me1. what's more, i don't remember any NPCs from me1 besides wrex and sovereign, that were memorable - but that's my personal opinion.

and at last... mako. concept was good, implementation - lacking. barren worlds with few different building types (3?) and terrain that was generated using a really simple algorithm. it was really shocking to see some lifeforms other than mercenaries/geth/trasher maws. predictable to boot. but, rejoice, mako lovers, as hammerhead is comming. i really hope that BioWare won't repeat their mistakes with this DLC... but, that's only my opinion.

bottom line is - me2 had better overall reviews than me1. don't like it - make your own game.

Holy crap im tired of this 13 year old "line in the sand" statement!
I didnt see you making your own game when ME1 was fine for most!
Nope you and your ilk were here whining up a storm about everything demanding changes.
Now others maturely bringing forth issues you 13 year old kids that not even suppose to be playing games run around cyber flexing telling others to go make their own game!

News flash, this aint YOUR GAME either.
Talk about false entitlement by the children!

Oh and ME2 bought and paid for those reveiws. The ones that came out after the game releases were not so rosey and cheerful but like the rest of your type, you just ignore anything you dont agree with like they dont exist.

Grow up

The lack of RPG elements really shocked and disappointed me. I wont be buying any exp pack for this one. While I enjoyed the game, its a one and done deal.

Yeah the personal reviews were slightly negative, and honestly there only few of those, but most major critics   gave the game high marks even after release. Not sayin' personal reviews don't matter though.

The only major critic that I can think of that ME2 low score, which was seventy-five per cent, was GameCritics.

Wait.......ME2 isn't one of the ultimate RPGs? IMO the game is a near perfect balance of Action Shooter/RPG! The speed and intrigue of the game as well as the story are great and a much welcomed change from ME1 (though I enjoyed that one as well).

I would like to see more diversity there are too few armor parts(sadly as awesome as the dlc armor is you are not able to mix it with the parts you own) and the different weapon mantufacturer from ME1 completely vanished.

Exploration is below-average in both games, xp 4 kills unbalances progression and is pointless anyway in a singleplayer game, dissociating arbitrary stats from weapon damage and health was the best thing to happen to ME2.

don't remember it, maybe because i was enjoying me1 at that time?

also, as me2 is "fine for most", why is "your ilk whining up a storm about everything demanding changes" right now? i'd like to see what was Your reaction to me1, because i really think that You were whining about it back then.

ahhh, don't You understand what people are saying? never said that it's my game. it's BioWare's game, they own it. don't like what they made? stop whining. make your own game, the one You'll like. after initial phase of developement, ask people what they would like to see in it, and then try to include all of the features in the game, and fail miserably, because some of them rule the others out.

ooooh, the great conspiracy theory:blink: albeit weak, try again.
actually, i just happened to check metacritic before writting, didn't bother reading the reviews because i wanted to check out the game by myself, and was very pleased with it. it has some flaws, but other than that it's enjoyable, immense and, in the contrary to what is being said here, as much a role-playing game as the first one was, albeit in different ways(mind You, that's my opinion). not in Your definition of RPG?

edit: i just love personal attacks over the internet, they carry so much weight:D

Y'all are looking back with some THICK rose tints there.

ME1 had GARBAGE RPG elements. In case you don't remember, when that game came out the true-RPG lovers pointed out how it's just a watered down shooter bogged with sub-par convoluted RPG mechanics. With ME2, they aren't pretending to be something they're not. It's an more pure ARPG, with the nasty pseudo-RPG fat cut away.

Now people are talking about returning to that garbage? Don't make me vomit.

ME1 is hardly garbage. And no rose tinted glasses here, I'm actually replaying it currently.  I have also played ME2 to completion 4 times, 3 times on Vet, once on Insanity.

Me1 character progression system is more fun in my opinion. Did putting 1 point in something change it much? NOPE. But it was cool to be able to level up more and be able to invest every point you earned into skills. With the new system you can have leftover points. Also, more levels > less levels. Even if less levels makes each level more meaningful, being able to level up more is moe fun. You opinion may vary, that's cool.

The inventory system could be a pain in the rear. Multiple playthroughs gave players the advance knowledge of what to omni gel and when but it doesn't mean the loot system wasn't kind of dumb. Spectre VII gear, then Spectre X gear was all that really mattered. Colossus or Mantis Armor. ME2 is an improvement in this area.

The character  skill system is ME1 is superior I think. The way skills work in ME2 is superior. The shooting in ME2 is superior.  Having a larger character sheet with more skills to choose from would be better for ME3. In ME1 you had to choose which skills you wanted at maximum efficiiency and there were alot more to choose from.

I also vastly prefer having Charm and Intimidate as skills.

Things that i like

1. reseach system

2. armor system

3.more charters

Things i didnt like

1. no weapon custimization

2. use of weapons ammos to fill power slots

3. limits on the power.

Way thins should have been

1. power should of had multiple evovle point allowing for fine tuning of powers to suit players need

2. reseach other than damage and accuarcy shouldnt stack should have more upgrades focused on weapons and a way of setting research upgrades to gun changing the orignial but still keeping a level of custimization.

3. squad armor custimization you already built one for shepard why not just make to where you can do the rest of you team as well farther expanding stragey options

4. more than 3 types of guns for each type and allowed custimization from reseach mabye like

2-3 per gun which would father expand the stragey.

5. give the enineer a better special power than a combat drone or make the combat drone stronger

The other classes have uniqe powers that are good the drone sucks .

5.
