Hi

I start with my suggestions, my explanation comes after that. My suggestions:

1. Get rid of energy bars (mana bar is debatable), rely on cooldowns to avoid spamming of activated abilities. OR:
2. Adjust the energy regen in a way that let's you use activated abilities several times in a fight.
3. Combine 1 or 2 with fights where activated abilities make a difference, i.e. longer fights.

Explanation:

I played the game a few times now and I made some observations about my playstyle: I activate all those sustained abilities and use not more than one ability per fight. This seems odd. Especially when you consider, that there are a whole lot of abilities. I'd really like to use more activated abilities, but energy is drained too quickly and by the time you could use it a second time a regular fight is already won. At this moment the activated ability/fight ratio is 1.

I notice that abilities requiring energy is a common idea nowadays with all those MMORPGs around. Further it makes the experience of fighting more an active one, rather than simply tactical. With activated abilities you play a character rather than giving him orders. However this only works correctly if you can use those abilities several times per fight.

What do you think of those suggestions? Are you happy with the way the activated abilities/energy bar works?

Taking out energy bars and you remove a chunk of char planning. Fatigue is made inapplicable too. I may have gotten used to it but I think that stamina fits nicely.
This is a alternative to the old "rest in between fights to regain spells/abilities" of the inifinity games. The game isn't too complicated. I am pretty against the idea of making it simpler.

Edit: Oh and willpower becomes almost useless beside raising mental res.....

How many classes have you tried? Mages have several spells with a fast cooldown that I can use 2 to 3 times a fight. Some Rogue talents also recycle quickly. Without a stamina bar I'd just spam them forever. If I picked the right spells I could probably just cycle through through them non-stop for every fight - as soon as spell N was done spell A would be finished cooling down. What's to stop me from stacking 80 gadzillion sustained abilities if they don't cost stamina?

Well as a rogue assasin you can get feast of the fallen and as a warrior you can get death blow. Once you get these you never run out of stamina again. Isn't that a simple solution?

I always notice that samina runs out too quickly but once I get one of these it is never a problem again. The only problem is that non mages don't get any equivilent of a lyrium potion so once stamina is gone it's not coming back unless you have lots of stamina regen.

Turn on your sustains after you use your abilities, they can all be activated at 0 stamina/mana so use some up first.

I get to use as many spells per battle as I want because of my ridiculous mana regen.
