Both systems are retarded from a physics point of view, NOW CAN THIS THREAD DIE? PLEASE?
WHOA!!!! did you just say "physics" cus physics says mass does not change, but we have a game that has science fiction that has a MASS LOWERING / MASS RAISEING field technology in it. If that convention about the laws of physics is out how is ME1 or ME2s interpratation of thermal dynamics retarded?
NO, really explain it, how is it retarded? Im takeing a physics class now, so I will under stand, tell me how it works, I dont get it right now so if you use facts and explain it like you experts seem to know I will get it I am sure, so start explaining how each system fails.
Go do it, but if you cant, dont spew random opinions as facts.

I think it branches into theoretical physics, which is not my field so I won't even try to fathom it.
What I can say is mass is conserved, and the mass of the projectile does not change - only it's relative mass. I think..

Heat dissipates rather fast, actually, even if something is several hundred degrees (and the sinks obviously aren't excessively hot, in the thousand degree-range, if they were they'd damage the weapons), it will cool down to acceptable levels in a few hours (metal cools fast enough to lose the heat glow in a matter of minutes, that's why blacksmithing is hard work). You could say that the thermal clips get damaged and can't take the same amount of heat next time, though.
Depends entirely on the materials involved. On Earth, air can take heat away from metal quite quickly - metal has a relatively low specific heat compared to say water, and air's relatively good at conducting heat. But what about point of fusion? Think about how long it takes for an entire cup of water to freeze when suspended so that only the air is cooling it. Far longer then you want to wait for your gun to cool down.
But I've just realised, these guns need to work everywhere - even in space, or on planets with thin atmosphere's. There's no guarantee the clip will ever cool down - and in fact this reveals that in ME1 the guns were somehow able to lose all the heat they generate through radiation alone, which either means they generated virtually no heat (at least, no more then could easily be conducted through your arm away from the gun, comfortably), or the physics were terribly flawed. ME2's physics are fine though. Eject the cartridge, load a new heatsink.

From a game play standpoint I do not see how much having limited ammo would affect combat as ammo is not your only concern when you are firing. Most of the time I am more concerned about my shields. I am a good enough shot that I usually can get a headshot with the avenger so I never really have to worry about ammo. I imagine the only reason that they made the ammo system the way they did was to force people to use other weapons besides their favorites. Personally I love the changes they made to the combat system except that I wished they had made a hybrid of the two systems. That system being if you are firing and overload your heatsink you could either wait for the gun to cool or eject the heatsink and slap in another one.
