I'm going by my first playthrough, when everything was difficult (playing on Normal). My tactics were shot, I killed Wynne and didn't buy the Spirit Healer manual, so I had no healer at all. I also had no DLC, so no Shale or Starfang or WC Armour or anything. I ended the game dual-wielding Topsider's Honor and a Red Steel Bloodline wearing Superior Drakescale armour =P.

Toughest Battle: Corrupted Spider Queen, or the Back Alley battles in Denerim probabyl gave me the most re-load problems. I never even beat Gaxkang, though.

Most Overrated: The Archdemon. Even on a playthrough where I died every other fight, I beat him first time. Loghain was also easy, but I think I died once.

On subsequent playthroughs, toughest goes to Jowan vs Desire Demon. No healing plus weak skills = numerous fail. I beat teh demon itself easily, it was the third fight with her and two rage demons that did me in so much.

The toughest for me was the Archdemon - but now that I think about it, it was tough because I was trying to ensure my army didn't lose a single soldier (which I accomplished - somehow. Finished the battle of Denerim without a single casualty). </bragging>

Other than that, I'd say Ser Cauthrien was the hardest; she would've been more of a pain than the Archdemon if I hadn't gone for the self-imposed challenge.

Most anticlimactic was the Broodmother - after all the creepiness from Hespith , it was disappointing to find out I could just hit the Broodmother with Blood Wound and make it completely helpless.

....Toughest Battle: Corrupted Spider Queen...

Ah, I forgot this one, maybe the only battle I had to repeat three times before killing her!

Very true. The queen is actually pretty dangerous. Reason being her poison spit stacks upon itself. Those ticks will add up. Not the hardest imo as you can stop her from spitting by being close ranged but dangerous nonetheless.

Toughest battles on 1st playthrough: I had trouble with a lot of them (the Broodmother, Jarvia, the spider queen) but Branka was the most frustrating. I actually reloaded and sided with her against Caridin because I couldn't beat her.

Easier than expected: the Archdemon.

The hardest fight was just about anything in the dead trenches (I really had to fight tooth and nail), while the most overestimated was the fight with the archdemon and high dragon. I slaughtered both easily, got the defender achievement at the denerim gates, and didn't lose but 5 allies total(despite using armies in every area and mages for the archdemon fight).

I just quarantined whoever the archdemon was hitting with aoe's, and kept them healed. During the high dragon attack I pulled it with blizzard instead of the horn, and it focused on Wynne but only with ranged attacks. It couldn't reach her for some reason standing between the cliff it rested on, and the other one.

Hardest: probably Ser Cauthrien

Overrated: gaxkang. Killed him on my first try with no deaths. This was surprising as on my first playthrough I had a pretty hard time on just about any boss and this one was deemed to be really tough (afterall, it's a (sort of) anagram for kangaxx).

Toughest: Drakes in the Wyrmling Lair.

Anti-climatic: Arcane Horrors and Abominations (They look exceptionally frightening, only to be slain quick and easy from a couple strikes.)
