Yeah, I guess that's a good point about people going back and changing their canon. Now that I think about it, lots of people have mentioned doing so. I guess I probably am still in the minority of people who chose no romance back when nothing at all was known about ME2.

i wouldnt call this the entire communitys thoughts, im pretty sure that the charts would look different, but im surpised with garrus, he had such a boring characater in me 1, i was really mad that he would be in me 2 as squad but, i like him allot, plus his face insnt blury

What about correlations? A popularity contest where your votes are voluntary are clearly going to favor those characters with the most rabid fan base (Tale, Garrus). For example, just glancing through the data it appeared that players who selected a LI in ME2 tended to rate the other LI's lower than the average (somewhere between the mean and lower quartile). That said, if this is indeed true, it would be of more interest to see, say, Tali's score by those that chose to romance her vs. those that did not, vs those that chose to romance a non-competing LI (ie, stay true to ME1, or romance an LI of the opposite sex). Make sense?

Yeah, I didn't worry about that yet. Ill update the statistics and work on some correlations when I get back. I gotta run to 2 meetings real quick. So check my post again in about 3 hours for new information!

Nah, but just didn't wanna bog things down with the same thing posted over and over. But ah, good, if you have something flashier or more in depth thats good.

I chose Tali in ME1. Not realizing that Tali was not actually a romantic interest in ME1 at the time. Ashley was funny but not quite my type. Liara made me feel like a pedophile. Tali always felt like a real companion to me. I loved talking to her.

That she became a full fledged romance in ME2 was just a very happy coincidence.

yeah, it's clear some votes were fudged and some people we're being... "interesting"
Which is also why I put it in the results to show that some of the votes might have been fudged. So in essence take the info with a grain of salt. Although for the most part it's fairly accurate.

Do you have SPSS, Deltaboy? It can calculate any statistic in the blink of an eye. It will save you a lot of time if you have such a program, trust me.

I rarely used Garrus in my squad in ME 1, but I always enjoyed talking to him.  Might be because he agrees with almost all the renegade choices.  Really liked him in this game, he seemed more combat effective this time.

I've just punched in the first 450 results into SPSS. Standard deviations are way higher this time. Some means are higher, too. Still, it seems that Mordin still has the lowest standard deviation of the bunch as well as the highest mean.

Moridin is just that awesome.  Genius, good fighter, doctor, sings Gilbert and Sullivan and is full of inter-species mating tips.  #1 squad mate in my book.

Do you have SPSS, Deltaboy? It can calculate any statistic in the blink of an eye. It will save you a lot of time if you have such a program, trust me.

I don't have that, lol. I wish I spoke to you before IDid all that. This is only based on 514 votes though and now I think there is like 800. So I can use SPSS tomorrow. Unless you do it before me. Thanks for the headsup. I like math though so it wasn't too tedious. Mostly I used formulas in MS Excel.

This is fun stuff. I am designing version 3.0 of the survey right now, and it will ask more questions than this one. What should we ask, guys? So far, I have questions like:

1. What is your assessment of Wrex in Mass Effect 2? (Answers: Postive/Negative/No opinion)

I need some more, any suggestions? Anything that may tell us how certain character interactions lead to certain scores and such? This is my primary weakness in designing good surveys.

I'm rather curious to see a breakdown of how people of a certain gender/age group rate the characters.

Dunno if that has been raised before, but I see some difficulty with the ME1 characters.



Example: Liara. Isolated in ME1, I would have rated her 9 (never give anyone a 10, no character is perfect) as I found her Prothean insight and the thingy with her mother pretty interesting, then there was the romance too. With her horrible portrayal in ME2, I had to give her a 6-7 in the survey. Garrus I just hated in ME1 but found absolutely amazing in ME2, could not give him a very good score due to my dislike in ME1, though. Tali stayed strong throughout, Kaidan made such a little appearance in ME2 that I did not consider it in my rating. Etc.

It's also somewhat hard to compare, and the ME1 characters are at a disadvantage at least to me. I found nothing wrong with Mordin for example, almost was inclined to give him a 10, but that would have been unfair to the ME1 characters, as they have the difficult task of continuity and the lack of presence in ME2.



Perhaps there should be a distinction in the survey, judging ME1 characters separately or giving them two ratings, a ME1 and ME2 (+ perhaps an "overall" rating).

That makes it more complicated, but I think it's necessary. As I said before, ME1 characters were handicapped by the need for consistency/continuity. (Garrus for example profits from this as he got much more interesting at least to me due to ME2.)

Not to mention the fact that the ME1 cameos in ME2 were not actual squad members, I think this takes away too. So it is a really good point you make.

Jacob only had three votes... out of nearly 800.
