And admit it...it is sooo funny to read even if you are the one getting verbally whipped, I would die of laughter if I was the one getting verbally whipped, I couldn't get mad.

I don't think I remember a single case where someone I "whipped" (intentionally or not) was the one getting offended. It is, in fact, always a third party that gets offended on their behalf, wagging their finger at me about how unprofessional I am.

Perhaps I sometimes deserve that remark. I do get heated from time to time, I'll admit it. I'm a professional game developer, however, not a professional public relations expert or customer service provider. If I had to be either of those things I wouldn't come here, period -- as the vast majority of Bioware employees don't. They probably think those of us who do are crazy, and sometimes I don't blame them.

Perhaps my comments do more harm than good, however -- not unlike the WoW employee mentioned earlier. Something to think about.

True people need to lighten up and laugh, it is funny. A lot of the things you reply with are funny, you are the only reason I still come to this part of the forum. I also do not see how people can compare a company to Blizzard/Activision, it is like compairing Bounty to Angelsoft..they both get the job done but for different things.

What a farce. How could you NOT judge that site by that article? It wasn't professional at all, and very inaccurate in its content.

Meh to be fair, they have multiple article writers and not everyone shares the same views on everything.  They are usually quite entertaining.  Judging any site by one small part of it is never good.  For example: Were we to judge the social network by it's layout alone, nobody would come here because it is so terrible ;)

I appreciate any dev/writer/Biowarian input on these forums a great deal. The more, the better. I've found David Gaider to be level-headed and informative, and it's always a pleasure to read his posts.

I'm thinking the opposite. Or you can join one (or more) of the groups from the old forums and post there. We've already kidnapped Sheryl and Mary.....

Nonsense.  Controversy draws traffic.  Let's have a fight about Alistair.  :P

David's presence here is refreshing and greatly appreciated, always open mind to share some bits of lore, of the development process, just anything Dragon Age related. And since it's most often his personal oppinion, posted in his spare time, not an official BioWare statement, you should treat his posts as such. I can't see this David vs. the community thing. He's "just" a prominent member of the community, sometimes there for some insight, sometimes for a funny remark.

So, in short, it's very nice to have him around. Just take his posts for what they are.

It's not about who wins or loses, it's about how you play the game!  Nekkid, in this case.  Image IPB

I don't have to agree with you to appreciate that you at least stay involved in the community that plays the games you help develop and books you write. What that adds to the community as a whole can not be overestimated.

I agree wholeheartedly with these two lines.  Being a) involved and B) obvious and accessible  make you neither a Bioware poster-boy / Figurehead  or a nuisance.  I think the problem is not with the article itself really, as that the title of this post was set up to encourage people to play sides - either for or against Dave Gaider when seriously, when is anything in life that cut and dry that isn't a marketing ploy meant to sell you something?

Having the writers, devs etc posting on here ( and it isn't just David Gaider!) *does* add alot to the community.  You get insights into the characters and the lore that you can't get anywhere else.

Frankly, It isn't a matter of for or against, that is why it is a *community* and not a competition.  Too much reality tv out there....

We should respect and value everyone's opinion; debate is always healthy though.

I suspected that was true.  That's why I didn't send one.

I realise we've been... interacting... for almost a decade, but our relationship is kind of strange.  I would be pleased to call you a friend, but I think doing so now would be presumptuous.

I find great that David Gaider posts here so frequently, but I worry about him. Some of the idiots he replies to, do not deserve his time. The characters he created for this game have more depth than those in many novels. There's no reason he has to defend them pen, cursor or sword in hand. It's great to see but ultimately the quality of his work speaks for itself.

Eh, I appreciate when anyone involved in the game bothers to slum the forums...I also appreciate the employees giving a little back to the exaggerators and flamers. I don't think I've ever seen Gaider be a smartass about constructive criticism/feedback.

Don't let a few bad apples amongst a bunch of people who enjoy your presence on the forums deter you from posting here. It doesn't matter where you are on the internet and even if people know who you are, you'll still get the same crap. It is the internet after all.

Years of modding on a active pokemon forum and website (where unsurprisingly the average age/gender was about 13ish/male) has taught that when someone bites, you just bite back, and a lot harder (which doesn't automatically mean be rude, because sometimes the biggest face slapping response is to respond in pure kindness and full of manners). A thick skin never hurt anyone, although they can be a bit itchy ;)
