Have just skimmed over the thread but wanted to say that I greatly appreciate the refreshing and witty attitude that Mr. Gaider presents us with on the forums. How often do we get to see developers floating around on forums such as these unless there is an outcry of "Woe is me, the Devs won't listen to us"? That and the fact that he has written two really awesome novels for Dragon Age makes him a step above the average developer (and they really are good books, not at all like those crappy SWG or Halo ones).

I admit, I skim these forums every day, looking for little Gaider-tidbits to chuckle at, he is pretty good at telling people exactly what he thinks and good on him for it. I hope we don't ever scare him off with our disrespectful commentary and discussions (well, not that I would do that, but some people don't seem to notice the Devs actually read things around here).

So Mr. Gaider, when are you going to take some time off and visit Australia? I'd love to get my copies of The Stolen Throne and The Calling signed some day :)

Gaider, please don't go. There has been even less dev interaction with this social site.

Eh? Dave wrote two novels for Dragon Age ?! Ho, ho! I'll have to check these books out ... Dave's come a long way since the early days in hotel management.

Hmmm, one of my favorite things about BioWare games is the selection of dialog choices where at least one is something I would never really say, but is actually quite funny. The dialog options with Wynne, for example, crack me up. How does one express such humor in a book format? I guess I'll have to read and see.

I like Gaider. He's a nerd's nerd. I hope he doesn't leave just because some puerile cretins had their feelings hurt by an internet post.

I think it's a good thing that David Gaider and other members of Bioware are actually members of our community there instead of just "lording" over it as mods who only interact with us to bring wrath.

I think we've got quite a nice little thing going here.

QFT

Those who think that the Bio-Staff that post here are "too harsh" needed to be on the BethSoft boards when Oblivion came out.

Anyone who had any kind of disagreement over game development was a moron to the developers. Anyone who persisted in protesting was banned. They literally shut out 90% of all dissent, even from long-time posters. Didn't matter if it was civil or not.  And if you disagreed with them about the "realistic" character models...oh dear.

The worst anyone gets here for a legitimate--or even not so legitimate--disagreement is a little snark and perhaps some smoke on the edges. But I haven't seen people banned for an honest disagreement with a developer. And then people post rubbish like that article on greywardens? Dumb. Just dumb.

And for the record, anyone thinking I'm sucking up to the man...1) I gain nothing by doing so. 2) I can't recall "the man" ever responding to one of my posts. This despite having been here since the defunction of the old Black Isle boards flooded all of us over to here in the Baldur's Gate days.

David G. is a rock star. I've been silently stalking him for months now, and I find his posts erudite, funny and uniquely informative. However, I find this article hysterical because I had noticed a certain change in tenor, a decrease in joy, in David's responses over the past few weeks as he sort of fell into the trap of more often responding to the forum extremists and actually arguing with some of the crazier fans -- always a losing proposition in this sort of setting. I was thinking about writing a blog post about it myself, how fans can drive even the best intentioned person crazy, and how its best not to feed the pigeons else we'll all end up in Venice.

I'm trying to picture you roaming aimlessly about on a field of whipped meringue and chocolate cookie trees.

Less threatening image than your usual locust-driven prophet provides, but hey -- I'll take what I can get.

And so David said unto the people. "I stab MistressNine in the face."

Oh the old forums as we all waited for DAO posting thousands of post a day. -sheads a tear- those were the days.

David we love having you here on the forums. Back when we were waiting for DAO you were always around to keep our spirits up and made sure we had fun. You also "whipped" some sense into people:P

Now that I think about it not much has changed. David you're still the goof ball making sure we have fun. You're still "whipping" community members, AND I am still waiting for RtO. Some things never change :P (I'm kidding take a joke guys)

You know what I'd really like now?
Someone making a small animated series staring Shale.
A sort of travel guide. Shale traveling the world and reporting from various places in her unique way.
Shale in Venice would be awesome.

Or think of Shale in Rome, running up and down in front of St. Peter's Basilica, chasing the pigeons.

I didn't go to read the rest of the article, but anyone calling David Gaider an annoying nuisance is lacking in perspective. Yeah, DG, I've seen you go off on people and lose your patience, but, who doesn't lose their patience from time to time? Sheesh, put me in Gaider's shoes and I'd be exploding right and left at all the ingrates. No, I think we should all appreciate the time that he takes to answer our questions and to put the snarky in their place! 'Cause when he's not being informative about the DAO world, a lot of times, David's just downright funny. I've said it before and I'll say it again: I'd buy David Gaider's games and books for the sole purpose of keeping him around on the forums. Speaking of which, I still do need to buy and read those books... Well, maybe after I play Mass Effect 2 (yeah, I know you aren't on that team, David, sorry). Gotta get to installing/registering that, come to think of it.

I, for one, am a big proponent of the "good cop, bad cop" relationship subtly exploited here by our own Victor and David, respectively; it's as entertaining as it is effective!

There was a time when the DAO boards were more active with developer comments.

That time is called "during development".

I find I prefer that time.  I love playing the game, sure, but discussing game development more abstractly leads to some excellent insights.

I have stated this previously as well. The console delay was actually a blessing for me and I can't wait for the next game to get into development, besides any expansion work.

Well, for the forums of such a place to open anyway.

As for friend requests, I'm not entirely sure why David accepted mine, but I personally considered the first week or so after the social site started to be where I would just accept any friend invite and hope it carried some significance from the previous site. I think I've only had to remove two people from my friends-list afterwards.

I've had my out with Gaid as I think he is a little harsh, and his customer relations needs work, I do however respect him, and the work he does, and the fact that he does come here on his "free time" as he so often reminds us of lol.

But you're the person everyone is talking about when they refer to the whipping. *facepalm*

You're seriously missing a lightbulb here, David Gaider doesn't have ANYTHING to do with customer relations. He's not here to please you, he's here because he's a) insane and B) enjoys talking to some of us. And sometimes c) he wishes to set people straight. He doesn't have any gloves to put on, because you're NOT talking to a person who is trying to SELL you a product, you're talking to one of the people making the product "behind the carpet". He could lash out insults at you and noone should care. If you threaten to not buy a product because one of the workers on the product insulted you, well I guess that's just your loss.

Just keep in mind for everyone David scares off, he makes ten new customers in the process.

Whatever. David writes brilliantly, and is to be commended for responding on the forums (absurd flamefests that they are at times) at all. So he occasionally makes pointed (and usually funny) posts in response to the latest "DA:O SUKKKS AND I H8 U AL!!!111" thread. Cry me a blessed river.

Um wow very interesting conversations here.  N of course I've got to put in my own two cents worth in also Image IPB.  Do you know 1 of the main reasons I enjoy coming onto this forum?  It's because the game developers like David Gaider are not afraid to come on here.  If you have a question/problem they will respond.  Not to all of them because they'd be on here forever lol but it's the fact that they do take the time n come on here at all.  I honestly have to say that I usually never give a tinkers damn about forums but the fact that these people actually do come on tells me how important we are as custumers.  They are trying to make sure we are happy even though as I've said in other posts that you can't please them all, cause there's ALWAYS someone out there that isn't happy.  And no matter what you do you'll never make them happy.
Even if they didn't come on here I LOVE DA:O, I'd recommend it to anyone that likes these kinds of games.  I'm not a ME gammer, I'm not into that kind of game but this game, oh heck ya.  But the fact that Gaider n the other's do come on here well for me that makes me respect them and the game I'm playing more. To me this game here is what gamming is all about. You basically got it all, plus you got great interactions with your companions.  I love the way you can interact with them, the romance is taken as far as it is, it makes the game that much more intersting then a hack n slash game.  This game draws you in emotionally n almost makes you feel your right there in the game itself.  How many games can really really do that.
As far as the DLC's, heck ya bring on more, it add's to the game, history like RTO.  You got more of a sense of what happened n why, (even though it did bring up more questions than answers) lmao but that's the fun thing about this game.  I'll pay the $5-$7 no problem.  It's better then them boxing it all up in 1 shot n having to spend $50 to $70 in a store, big deal it's a lil bit of chump change.  That lil bit of chump change add's more content to the game n I enjoy it.  But then I was 1 of the (fools) lol who went down to Hot Topic n bought 2 DA shirts partly because of DA but also for the DLC lmao... Awesome shirts btw lmao, make great pj's Image IPB
Basically how I look at it as a customer who's buying the DLC, is it worth it, does it add to the game, does it make it even more enjoyable, does it make me want to play more then heck ya. Then not only does Bioware win but so do I n what's an even bigger bonus is Gaider n the other's do come on here.  It show's they support us and the game n they are trying to make us happy.  There are some games that come out n if there are problems there's no one around to help you with them, their just thrown out there n basically if you have a problem oh well you deal with it.  These people here care, give them some respect and credit.

Ok now that I've said my p's n q's I'm going back to my game lmao

Edit: Maker's Breath, grrrrr spelling errors

Edit: PS.  In case this hasn't been said THANK YOU Gaider n everyone that do actually take the time n come on here.  We really do appreciate it.

I just wanted to add my 2 cents to say I love it when Gaider posts, gives you a feeling that you are being listened to and that they care about the community. He also gives helpful hints sometimes or insights into lore which are often helpful during discussions... :)

Go Gaider! Image IPB (and ofc all the other Bioware employees that post on these forums)

That article looks like a lot of nonsense to me.

Honestly, the kind of garbage that people like David Gaider have to put up with is exasperating. Every night before he goes to sleep he probably has to whisper "It's only because they care so much about the game... It's only because they care so much about the game...", otherwise he might not have the will to get up every morning to find out what other childish idiocy people are writing about him and the game he has put so much time and effort into.

The article looks like a bunch of nug-wash to me.

They're comparing apples and oranges. Mr. Gaider's posts show a great love of the game and a passion for what he works with. His insight into lore even if it is just minor claifications is invaluable.

Greywardens.com also seems to miss the point about the certian Blizzard employee they mention (okay, everyone knows its Ghostcrawler). As much as many of us do get annoyed at him (wts hunter-baiting please), I don't know anyone in my guild that doesn't check blue trackers for posts from him fairly regularly if not daily, and we're a EU guild, he posts on US forums, we can't even respond.

Then again maybe some of this is just the massive Alistair fangirl in me talking.
