Yeah, Gaider can be a bit snarky, but usually he is the one snarking back, not the snark-starter. He and the other writers are proud of their work, and what's wrong with that? And I do like a sense of humor that's a big wicked. Like hiding my daughters penguin figurines in our freezer. What? I thought it was funny, and the penguins didn't complain.
Greywardens.com is a pretty good site. One controversial piece of writing does not a bad site make.

Who doesn't love a funny story, right? I wrote a critical review of DAO's weakest elements, posted, and got substantially flamed for it - as to be expected. I like Bioware, and their games, quite a bit, but at the time not enough to "know the players by their jersey numbers" so-to-speak.
I post a link to the article on this forum (after accidentally posting it to the ME forum ... whoa. Not pretty!). Inevitably, one of the Mods chimed in. And naturally, I have this horribly twisted, unjustified, and stereotypical view of your classic "forum mod". So I nod, thank, and banter as per usual. This view is triggered by that little Bio-ish "Mod" logo underneath the handle.
Then this other mod posts a comment. It seemed fairly well articulated, more so than usual from the semi-official mods you'd expect. I read, contemplated, and ultimately disagreed on some of the finer points. The mystery mod responded, and because we're not exactly sitting across a coffee table here, we didn't exactly see eye to eye. We both missed the boat a little bit, but still paddled our way to shore with a few points.
Then I realized his handle was not some crazy convoluted handle, like "shizzlfy-dragonLaserMonster", and the little Bio-ish icon said "Bioware" and not "Moderator". Hmmm ... I squint, read the name a little closer, and think to myself, who is this "David Gaider" fella?
HA! A quick Google later and I think to myself, "You know, I probably would have done that particular string of responses slightly differently ... oh well."

I certainly hope they continue to post and make their presence felt. When I come to the forum here, it is generally their posts that I gravitate to first.
I think, fundamentally, that they recognize that the vast majority of the people posting here (whether critical of the game or not) really do love the game, the lore, the whole DA:O world (or they wouldn't be here).
I like the fact that, not only is the game "interactive" with the player(s) -- so is the company. I really hope that continues, silly "nuisance" blogs like the one at greywardens.com notwithstanding. Incidentally, I generally like that site, though sometimes, as in this case, I think they "scrape" a bit to come up with new material.

He seems to be able to relate to us on our level. As though he is just another fan talking about the game or any issue that interests him.
I suppose it is less intimidating to feel like one of us. For some developers, posting on official messageboards may seem like stepping onto a stage to give a speech to a large unpredictable crowd.

I read far more than I post on these forums, and even my reading here is infrequent. However I've seen enough to know that having someone like this Gaider guy drop in and offer his unique perspectives is far more of a boon than a curse. Whether you agree/disagree with or like/dislike him, not many game forums offer this level of interaction with their community. It makes the conversations/arguments a bit more interesting that your typical game forum.

(I don't even know this person relaly btw, but if he is rude simply because someone asks a question or says something should be in the game, then he should take a hike before he chases away a portion of would be consumers. If he is just fighting fire with fire though, can you really blame him?)

I like it when the game creators talk to the community. Designers and programmers of Paradox Interactive talk to the community all the time and they even publish weekly development diaries. That just makes me appreciate them even more.
Same thing with the fact that BioWare employees are willing to talk to the community, even if most of us are just idiots.

It seems as if I should post less than I do. I knew that some people took me as Bioware Man, as if I represented and was responsible for everything Bioware simply by way of my visibility, but sharp-tongued figurehead wasn't exactly what I was going for.
Peace.
Please David, do not post less than you do. It is always a pleasure reading your info about the game as well as the response you give to people. And yes, they can be witty and sarcastic, but on the old forums we all know that this was because you secretly loved us

Don't worry, that won't happen. In fact, Mr. Gaider and GW.com get along quite goodAndreaDraco wrote...
I know for sure that, if the GW article will result in David and the other writers/developers posting less on these forums, I'd be severely pissed off by said article

See what happens when you try to be nice and communicate with us, well I suppose there is nothing left to do now but string up his corpse as and example to the other dev's who want to come around these forums.
Seriously you cannot take shots at someone and expect them to sit there very politely and take it. Ive seen some of the stuff directed to Gaider and it can be a little harsh. I am no Fanboi and have oppenly given a opion that differs from the dev's but I always try to take it from a respectful approach. We are lucky the dev's even come around here and let us know whats going on tell me another company that will do that for it's fans.
Now if we can only find a way to cut the spinal colum of EA and allow Bioware to live free from the chains of slavery, but if we did that they would probably partner with the new Satan Activision.

The point being that Gaider's comments sometimes cuts through all the nonsense, all the tomfoolery and all the misinformation about the game that's out there. And yes, sometimes, this needs to be said in a direct fashion. I'd rather have a dev. be honest about this than trying to please the community all the time. And please understand that people have different opinions about this game, some people might not even like the game or many of the features in the game. I see nothing wrong in telling these people 'then don''t buy the game' - one wonders why they have bought the game, then. Especially when then come on the forums and just say 'this game sucks' and don't explain any reason for why they think as they do.

I'll just point out that I don't think this is necessarily true. If you read the article you'll see that the writer doesn't really agree with the sentiment of some... if anything, the article perhaps didn't really paint a very balanced picture. Even so, the writer amended the article title and clarified a few points within to make that clearer.aries1001 wrote...
I think the writer of the article has misunderstood why and how Gaider, and other Bioware devs. are here.
I don't have a beef with Illiani, and this is just a misunderstanding. Like I said, don't hold it against GreyWardens.com ...I shouldn't be above criticism, and all I'd personally like is a balanced picture if one's going to shine the spotlight on me. Not that anyone's obligated to do so, here or anywhere.
