Yeah, I know there's Vigil's Keep, but I'm talking about an RP that we can all get in together. Not a Persistent World. You know, one with a plot and where all the members' characters get together for some goal or what not? I'm aware that the Community Creations forum(or subforum, however you call it) as made for things such as fanfiction and fanart, but can't an RP be a community creation? Can't an RP be counted as fanfiction but in the twisted sort of way where you have multiple people influencing the story? Can't we at least try to see if we can handle an RP on the forum at least once? Can an RP be considered a "creative work inspired by Dragon Age: Origins"? And would it be great if everybody put their ideas together first and thought it through? Can an RP still have a relatively good story if handled well? Do you like the idea? Do you not like it? Why?

Discuss.

I don't see why not. Start a thread, lay down some rules and see who joins in.

Well, I was part of something like this once for Wheel of Time. We made up a 4th Age Mirror World (It wasn't originally a mirror world, but certain things happened in the books that made what we'd done null and void). We called it Twin Towers.

We all created characters and certain people -- mostly those of us who were writers -- were called plotmasters. Plotmasters created story arcs within our 4th Age framework and guided the action. Characters posted their actions according to what the plotmasters wrote. The whole thing was moderated by three game masters who ruled what violated canon and what didn't. For instance, everyone was constantly Traveling EVERYWHERE even just for a trip to the kitchens. So they invented a ter'angreal that prevented traveling within a certain radius.

Is this like what you had in mind?

Something like that.

Although I was more or less thinking of there being a thread where everybody gets together and puts there ideas together to come up with a story. So, it's sort of like writing fanfiction, only that the fanfiction is made by everybody's ideas and THEN we have a sign-up thread where everybody makes there characters. So it's sort of like plot first, characters second, and THEN starting the story.

But right now, I want everybody to put there ideas together on not the story but on how an RP would work on this forum. I do think, however, that plotmasters could work. That way we won't bump into any continuity issues.

After many years of trial and error (it ran for about 8 years), plotmasters were the only way we figured out that a 30+ person community could function.

I'd suggest checking with one of the moderators of this forum before starting an RP thread.

I'm against the idea. If BioWare allows PbP RPing, I'd rather it have its own forum.

I don't know about necessity. If you end up with 30+ members, maybe. Ten people should be capable of getting along, however.

But at one point, we had five major storylines going, each intersecting at different points. I kinda miss it, but DA:O fic is consoling me.

^ This.

I'm not a RP'er in that sense, myself, so I probably wouldn't partake. However, I could see such a set of threads taking over this particular forum.

What I would suggest is perhaps contacting Victor Wachter to see what BioWare could do to meet this need (e.g., open an RP forum if they've a mind to).

Good luck!

I think that Dragon Age Lore should get a very forum for itself. Where it isn't just discussions based on the game story but the whole background story about the Dragon Age universe. And intellectual lore discussions go around in the forum.

I guess I will ask Wictor Wachter. Thanks for the advice.

Why are you swearing?

I'd have started with Lady Shayna.

Nah, it's just that he didn't answer back. Anyway, I guess there can't be RPing. Besides, I've sort of given up by now with all the lack of support I'm getting.

While I love RPing, forum RP in particular can be very time consuming for me so I would not join in. >.<
