If Loghain is conscripted but survives the final battle, then he becomes a major recruiter for the Grey Wardens before eventually venturing into the Deep Roads to die fighting the darkspawn.

It doesn't mention in the epilogue how many years eventually actually means....

But as far as Awakening is concerned, Loghain, if he survived DAO, should still be around, since his life expectancy is reckoned in years not months. And he should still be in Ferelden, since his daughter gets him appointed Recruiter of the Grey Wardens.

If the PC is alive, then Weisshaupt would be unlikely to send for Loghain in preference - too old for the journey, too recently recruited, too unreliable a source of information.

He'll probably be 'out recruiting' during the events of Awakenings, since he basically takes over Duncan's job... how's that for irony.

In my completed games his role in Awakening shall be rotting in a hole in the ground, or being ashes somewhere, or whatever they do with dead people in that game >.>

Yeah, I can't for the life of me imagine how people can go through playthroughs doing the same thing over and over. People playing the game 15x over and never once sparing Loghain. Yuck.

Anyway, Loghain will NOT get the full 30 years or whatever. The taint will not take long to screw him up - This is straight from David Gaider. He will get some years, maybe, but definetly not the full amount.

He probably went into the Deep Roads to answer the Calling, then the Architect found him, and turned him into one of the talking Darkspawn, because what better way to get under your skin than to have your former enemy, who joined you, become your enemy again. Tsk tsk tsk.

He can't be around if he's dead.

The problem is that its so near the end of the game and a lot of people really like Alistair for an unknown factor. If they asked me to sacrifice someone else in my party I would have no problem.

Well he's cute, sweet, personable, moral, romantic, sincear and reminds me a lot of my husband when we first met.

And I can say hes an emotional idiot that does not consider Anora's feelings (The Queen!) or Grey warden cause to battle the blight (Riordan). its called a difference of opinion this is why Loghain makes a cameo and can be a companion.

Killing loghain archieves nothing, letting him go grants you friendship with the queen and another warden. Alistair remains a warden despite this by blood ties... I can live with that.

Justice for cailan/duncan can come from killing loghain later on Archdemon, if you dont trust Morrigan's witchy ways. I can live with that too.

Ive yet to kill loghain in any game, except my current game which involves *both* dying.. I wonder what expansion will make of that one. Loghain dead at landsmeet, Alistair death slaying the Archdemon.

Well it is a Crpg with many choices. Must be very boring to stick to just a few of those.

It has to be something they're prepared for, since you can't sacrifice Alistair without first killing Loghain. Posted Image

My gut feeling about all of the characters that are still associated with the Wardens in the epilogue, either officially having gone through the Joining or unofficially, will still be around, but they'll have other jobs to do rather than staying with you all the time.

Having had people do some really nasty things to me IRL and then being expected to be buddy buddy with them and work with them, well I just can't.  I just don't forgive that easily.  Loghain ostensably killed everything and everyone dear to the Wardens, but then again I play Dalish and have clan mentality to the Wardens.   Alistair has an emotional honesty that is well, refreshing.

I don't see Alistair as someone who is emotionally immature as much as I see him as someone who has been emotionally abused.  He does consider Anora's feelings though and is very happy to let her rule by herself.

As I said as well, he reminds me *a lot* of my husband when he was younger.

Then again a lot of the men that I see that really dislike Alistair seem to feel threatened by him.

However I just don't think we'll ever agree on this topic so there isn't a ton of point in argueing it.

My initial playthrough, Alistair QQ'd so damn much I jumped at the chance of replacing him with Loghain. Ironically, after all those conversations in camp I actually genuinely started to like Loghain an' much prefer him as a tank for my caster main.

I think any choices made in any playthrough should carry through into Awakening. So for Lohgain: if he lived, there could be a cameo of some nature; if he died, there could just be a mention. You just have to consider that this is a new tale and Lohgain's role might not be as big (he's important in some form or fashion, maybe) but he probably won't stand out as significantly he did in the main game.

Lohgain's a great and amazing character -- he's a guy you can really hate (or come to like) so his part in Awakening... should somehow carry through depending on our choices. I wouldn't mind at last a mention of him.

Have you seen the FAQ? He's confirmed as a possible cameo.

Sorry for old bump, but link?

I saved Loghain in all my games, and while I don't mind if he won't be tanking for my party in DA:A, I'd love to be able to walk in to the Gray Warden base and at least SEE him training our new recruits, he may be an amoral ****, but he's the Grey Wardens amoral ****, who trains my damn army in preperation for when the Orlesians or Darkspawn think they are ready to invade.

Loghain and Alistair will probably perform the same purpose in Awakening.

Whatever his story role, it'll have to be one that could also be filled by Alistair, since most playthroughs will have one alive and the other dead, so they are probably written to serve roughly the same plot function.

[edit: I fail at reading the post immediately above mine.]

Anyway, most likely the function will be as Fereldan welcome-wagon for the Orlesian warden (if any) and initial intro to Amaranthine.

Yeah, I figured they mentioned Wynne as well in case Loghain and Alistair are dead for Awakenings so she'd just give the lines they normally would in regards to Grey Warden business.

Loghain's role will obviously be more weak-minded, irrational fear of Orlais, cowardly acts of treason, selling his own citizens into slavery, hiring apostate maleficarum assassins, and betraying the Wardens in general.
