Hello guys,

Im going for my second playtrough and i have to say im having a hard time deciding between this 2 classes so im asking for some expertise help,

I know sentinel seems to be like godlike in ME2, the class feels cool but it also makes me feel like a holy paladin from WoW, i cant die but my offense wont do much either, is the weapon dmg from the sentinels crap ? or all classes have the same dmg with similar weapons?, im a very orientated soldier player, i like to shoot things :P so despite trying a knew class that relies also on biotic \\\\ tech goodiness i would like to make some havoc in between powers with my guns, i guess the vanguard prob would be better but unlike ME1 i feel the class quite hmm lets call it prone to being raped quite fast in a tough fight. charge is great but unless its well planned its suicide wich reduces the fun of the classe a bit,

anyway if someone can share me a bit of light regarding how the classes evolve troughout the game and about weapon dmg i would appreciate it,

Thanks

All classes are proficient with the weapons they have, if I'm correct. I never really liked the Sentinel. Feels too easy, being nigh-untouchable and whatnot.

The Vanguard, once you get the hang of it, is incredibly fun. You gotta know where to charge, when to charge. Squad orientation, careful timing, chaining Charge, shooting, melee, etc. Fun class to play on higher difficulties. Really, the only class that provides fast-paced action.

Agreed. (except for the squad orientation - I simply ignore them)

I had a lot of fun as the sentinel, and once you can pick up an assault rifle it only gets better. You kind of get a little bit of everything, so I used it on my first runthrough just to get a feel for how each of the other classes is going to play in some small way.

Also, if you want to spice things up, you could always do assault armor (hehe)

I personally loved Vanguard. Sentinels are ok but not really all that fun IMO. Charging in and using superior position and tactics to control the battle field is where the Vanguard Excels at.

I played as Sentinel as well since i have't played ME1 i thought i start with it to get a feel for the whole tech/biotic thing, and came to like it very much! but i mainly did it for the Tech armor power since it really gives u an exstra line of defence lasts untill discharged(at witch point it blows back and damages any melee enemies)

I have't tried as Vanguard yet, but maybe after i played it trough as an Adept i'll try it out, 1 thing i can say is that melee attacks are't as good in a game that mainly is based on ranged combat as one would think, but i can imagine if u like the challenge, GO for it!! :)

I am a Sentinel and there are times when I melee things.... on insanity.
Melee is very good in this game. try getting the strength boost pads and the melee/health upgrades.

Throw a warp and rush a krogan that's rushing you with the Carnifex and keep bashing/shooting. He should be stunned by the time your done with him, and if your a guardian you'll probably have your tech armor by the time he gets up.

Maybe i'm just a little unconfortble with meleeing in a game like this, i don't know, only time i used melee attacks is when i got swarmed with husks, waiting for my cryoblast to effect them so i could shatter them. but i must say that meleeing with a heavy pistol somehow just does't feel very "heroic" they should put blades and bayonettes on the weapons so that it feels more right if u ask me.( or inport some heavy maces swords from DA:origins...)

You CAN play the Sentinel in a fast-paced manner. Its higher risk, but at the same time, higher reward.
Most people just play with as minimum risk as possible to get through the levels, but that doesn't mean you can't play better and faster.

yeah... sentinel is the DPS class. Everyone knows this, right? Take AP ammo as your added power. Between AP ammo, AR, Warp and Overload, you take down enemies way faster than everything else in the game other than an infiltrator with a fully upgraded sniper rifle. Fully upgraded warp and fully upgraded overload is an instant kill on almost all organic and synthetic enemies, respectively, that don't have shield or armor up. I like to bring Thane and Garrus with my Sentinel for hyper single target DPS. Miranda and Grunt work too.

Play Sentinel if you want a nice and easy run, Vanguard if you enjoy a challenge.

Or do both, and switch to Sentinel when you are tired of reloading :P

Heavy Charge will refresh your shields 100% with every charge.  That is the secret to success and your survival.  Vanguard is all about the charge.

If you have framerate problems it will interfere with charge targeting.  Update DirectX and video drivers to be sure

Not sure exactly what you meant there, but the fact is that the Vanguard's class skill, Assault Mastery, does provide a bonus to weapon damage while the Sentinel's class skill, Defender, does not (instead it lowers recharge on powers). Have taken warp ammo on my Sentinel to compensate, but of course the Vanguard already has incendiary ammo.

Currently also running a Sentinel and Vanguard in parallel. Sentinel is a wonderfully versatile class, with powers for just about every situation, but doesn't seem to have the rapid-killing potential of the Vanguard. On the other hand, the Sentinel seems a lot more forgiving of mistakes than the Vanguard, probably thanks mainly to Tech Armor.

Tbh, both are fun and am inclined to continue switching between the two.

Sentinels survive more often but Vanguards get all the babes.

Think legionnaire vs barbarian. One is a pawn, the other is a hardcore mushroom snuffing screaming maniac who will probably die 10 times faster but look 100 times cooler.

Think I'm one of the few that found vanguard dull. The charge was fun, sure, but usually I just sat back and pulled enemies or took crack shots with my pistol. Charging around the field just felt like an unnecessary risk.

I'm currently running through on a sentinel and they do lack the "oomph" other classes seem to have. That being said, I'm confident with the right ammo type and some more ranks in overload/warp it should be business as usual. The armor skill doesn't really add anything to gameplay though it is a nice passive boost.

Still, my favorite class is the soldier with slam added in.

i was thinking about some posts i saw around here, for instance melee dmg is set at 125, so i was thinking that sentinel / adepts had a lower dmg multiplier with weapons compared with lets say the soldier class. apparently i was wrong.

well im starting to get the hang of it, maxing your charge is a must for sure, its a hit and run tactic, you can clear a battlefield in seconds, funny tough the same power that gives the coolness to the class also makes it a bit redundant , its charge pew pew charge pew pew , but still fun and powerfull, altough on higher lvls seems to be crap from what i read.

Melee attacks hit for 125 damage each (dev confirmed), and coupled with the upgrades and shoulder pads, you hit for around 190 damage per hit. It's useful in-between shots, or if you've got an enemy that's knocked down, waltz up to 'em, and just melee them a few times till they die.

Not at all. I'm doing a Hardcore Vanguard run atm, and there's a number of people in the Vanguard thread that have Insanity experience. It's basically a free shield recharge, something very valuable in Insanity. You just gotta know where and when to Charge.

Charge is what will save you on Insanity. Why play a vanguard if you don't like the edge?
