I'm in my second playthrough for DA:O and would like to get Loghain in my party this time around.

Is it true that to do so will automatically cause Alistair to leave - even if he is "hardened"? Will allowing him to live, when that discussion at the Landsmeet comes around, open the option to have him join me?

Yes, if you choose to spare Loghian, Alistair will always leave the team, hardened or no.

Alistair will leave the party in two ways: If you have prearranged for him to marry Anora, he will storm off and leave you with Loghain to be King. If he's unhardened or it's not arranged that he will marry Anora, Al runs off to get spend the rest of his days on the Antivan Tavern Tour.



Alistair will NOT be in your party at all if you recruit Loghain.
