Jacob is the model wingman... what most people don;t get is that your man don't have to say much he is your wing man. He knows what do.

To be clear...this is a thread that supports Jacob as a great wingman...and not a love interest?

If so, I support Jacob. He could be my beer pong partner against Doctor Chakwas and Joker.

I liked Jacob! Even though I cringed as my Shepard relentlessly tried to smooth talk him and be flirtacious; I somehow ended up liking him, stuck to the neutral conversation options, and cannot wait to spill some drinks on the Citadel. :)

My squad was Jacob and Garrus, until I got Grunt. Nostalgia made me switch those two out.

Still, I talked to Jacob as much as I talked to Garrus. Cool guy.

Jacob is a good guy. I play almost exclusively a femShep so I was initially turned off by him, but I came to appreciate him as a good friend. I love the "get loud and spill some drinks" line. He also seemed to be the only one in the crew, while on the loyalty mission, that didn't go renegade and try killing someone. (I know a couple didn't, but MOST did.) But I would always do the paragon interrupt or stop them from killing whoever.

That fact that Jacob didn't want to or try to kill his father went over really well with me. It said a lot about his character. I stopped avoiding him after that and could appreciate the friend/brother relationship with him.

Jacob's a bro. Disheartened that the romance with him is less than good according to what I've read.

I was pretty upset when he died on my first run.

I figure this is a general Jacob Support thread, but I think he does work better as a wingman for ManShep than as a LI for FemShep.

No bromance, though. Jacob can never come between the epic bromance that is ManShep and Garrus. B)

Jacob's the ****. I totally thought he was going to be a Cerberus douchebag, but he turned out to be a lot like my Para Shep. YEA DOOD!

Me, too. I liked his bravery in stepping up and volunteering for the infiltration mission. Even though the mission called for a "tech expert," I figured everyone was on that list for a reason, so I thought, "Cool, go for it, Jacob."

And then...BOOM! Headshot. :o

I reloaded my save after that. :bandit:

My fav thing about Jacob is when he talks about getting loud and spilling drinks; it made me really hope I'd actually get to go DO that when the game was done! Was very sad. So sad that I dressed in pink armor, got wasted, and woke up on the bathroom floor with Jacob and Miranda there. And that pissing Turian.

I liked Jacob though!

(disclaimer: in typical KealaFerret form, I like everyone it's part of my charm)

Don't get me wrong, I like Jacob as a character. He and my Shepard were good friends by the end. My only problem with Jacob is the forced flirtation through voice acting that Fem!Sheps encounter. It annoys me.
Other than that, I quite like him. He and Garrus were my main companions.

Eh, pretty much all the romancable characters suffer from this. You reach a point with them where the friendly conversation stops dead in its tracks unless you continue down the romance path.

I think that Jacob could have used a bit more development, but it's obvious that he's way more trustworthy than Miranda. Man gets **** done.

Yeah, I have said this before but I like Jacob's character, writing and acting, I just really dislike his skill set.

In fact, I don't even dislike his skill set, it just is susprisingly useless. I can make him a Ceberus Veteran and give him 40% health that boosts him to 290 HP, and then max out his loyalty skill of barrier and even then he will die really fast. Its a shame because if he could tank even half as well as Grunt I would definitely use him.

I give him the eviscerator but in an attempt to keep him alive longer and behind cover I always assign him to the pistol. sigh, i think Jacob might have been a much stronger character if he had an Assault Rifle.

the character himself though, very cool. i don't know why people dislike him at all, he is the most likeable crew member on the ship.

He's ignored by most people just because he's not crazy, a ****, adorable, silly or has flashbacks he can't control. He's just a normal guy, which makes him stand out in his own way.

I think he/she was referring to the delivery of the line that femShep says "I'm more interested in just talking for a bit." Hale's voice is very sensual/flirtatious. And it wasn't a choosen path of dialogue. She just says it the first time you talk to Jacob...so we were forced to do it, unlike having friendly conversations for a while that stop unless you take it to romance.

No, no, no. We should have bromance options! Saying there should be no bromance is like saying there should be only one romance per gender. And if you spend too much time hanging out with Garrus - or vice versa - the other one gets jealous! :D

And eventually you have to pick one to be your best man, and whoever you don't pick refuses to speak to you and... wait, okay, I don't like this idea anymore.

I dunno, I tried to like him, use him more often in my squads the third time around. Then when I scared the Blue Sun Merc on Korlus with the scraped face into "finding a shady spot before he bled out" Jacob actually whined to me about it.
<_<

We just don't mesh well. Not terrible character, I just didn't find him or his story compelling.

I don't hate Jacob. I just hate his romance, cause it's awful, but as a character he is ok. The dialog between him and femShep ruined Jacob for me, but when you cut out romance parts he is really good, collected squaddie with very well done voice acting and amazing loaylty quest ( I am a sucker for "Heart of Darkness" topics). Still I prefer Garrus, Mordin, Thane or Samara, but Jacob is far better done than Kaiden. I want to see him in ME3 hopefully with better LI dialog.

I like Jacob. He's a great squadmate for paragon Sheps, though somewhat of a wet blanket for renegades. E.g. I kicked the Eclipse merc out the window during the Thane recruitment mission and he said something like, "Damn, soooooo... when do read him his rights". Jacob's moral compass is locked on paragon.

During my first 3 playthroughs, I barely used him in combat. On my 4th and current playthrough, I've used him nearly every mission (just to do it). He's the second most sturdy squadmate after Wre... Grunt, so that definitely counts for something. All of the AI gets retarded from time to time, but only Jacob and Grunt (an maybe Legion) can do something stupid and live long enough (occasionally) to correct their mistake.

I gave him 1 - Pull, 4 - Inferno Ammo, 4 - Cerebus Veteran, and put points into Barrier as I got them. With this setup, I find that he kicks ass against husks, varren, vorcha, and even krogan. He does well against standard collectors and mercs too since shotguns chew up shields and barriers. This is with an Infiltrator on Insanity. He reliably screens anything that gets too close, while I snipe away everything at long range. He'd probably be an even better squadmate for an Adept.

So yeah, Jacob is cool in my book. I just wish Shepard could actually get loud and spill drinks on the Citadel with him. Heck, that'd be awesome. Garrus, Shepard, and Jacob partying in a Citadel club, laughing their asses off when Mordin gets dragged off by several Krogan women 0.0. Good times, man, good times.
