That I really don't know. *shrugs* Still need to romance him myself to see what all the fuss is about.Jakegnosis wrote...

From what I've heard his romance path is rather sleezy and unappealing, but that's just from mere heresay since I have yet to actually take the plunge and attempt to romance him myself. That'll probably what I do with the next character I import.Jakegnosis wrote...

That's because you didn't play as femshep.Jakegnosis wrote...
Jacob's great, I don't understand why people don't seem to like him. He's just a solid dude, and one of male Shepard's closest buddies (along with Joker and Garrus) by the end of ME2. I still want to go get loud and spill drinks on the Citadel with him.
Why, does he turn into the world's biggest douche if you have ladyparts?
Frankly I played as Femshep and while Hale's 'flirty' voice annoyed me immensely, I found Jacob to be a rather solid friend. He's like the morally ambiguous younger brother my Shepard never had.
Sleazy on his part or Shepard's, though? I just can't see Jacob as a scumbag. Does not compute. I do know that Shepard gets some cringe-worthy lines in some of the romances, though.

Dang, great post. Definitely making me rethink my usage of Jacob. Early on in my second playthrough I was using him with my Sentinel and Garrus, which seemed to work well, but I was thinking of switching him out. Do you think I should just stick with that lineup?CC-Tron wrote...
That's because you don't know how to use Jacob. Incendiary Ammo is Jacob's least valuable skill. If you dumped any points into that skill besides the default point already given, you're not using Jacob to his best potential. Pull Field, Heavy Barrier (Makes him very tough to kill), and Cerberus Veteran (gives him a health boost) are the the only skills Jacob needs. Incendiary Ammo panics organics with only one point allocated to it. You don't need the damage bonus of Incendiary Ammo because organics don't attack while panicking. That gives you the opportunity to attack them safely.Br0th3rGr1mm wrote...
Jacob has one decent skill (Incendiary Ammo). I can't see why anyone would ever chose to take him over ANY of the other squadmates. As a character he is just bland and uninteresting.
Sorry guys, the Bro comes in last place out of 11 squad mates. He seriously needs a red Star Trek uniform, IMO.
Jacob is far from the least useful in the squad. He's the toughest member on the squad after Grunt. Pull Field is one of most useful biotic skills in the game period. Heavy barrier means you don't have to micro manage his ass in battle to prevent him from going down. Inviscerator shotgun gives him good range and power. Combine that with Incendiary Ammo and he can tear up panicked organics.
I can think of several reasons to take him on missions over Jack and other members who are not as tough. Jack doesn't have a skill that ranks her higher than Jacob. She's a close combat vanguard with no barrier skill so she's pretty easy to take down. Shockwave is not as useful as pull field. Jack has pull field but she can't take damage like Jake. At least Tali has combat drones but she's weak as hell too. I'd immediately rank him higher than Jack. I always take Jake in the final reaper battle because of his toughness.
Bottomline: Jake and Grunt are the toughest. The others require more micro managing and medigel.

Ugh, I liked him as a friend, but as a femshep it was so annoying.
I talk to him twice sense I meet him and then I start using a flirty voice
and Jacob brings up fraternization rules?
I can't talk to him without the stupid flirty voice, and it very vague as to how
you can be nice and polite but turn him down and be his friend...
I just stopped talking to him altogether as a femshep because I didn't want
to ****** him off.
Also I liked his romance the least out of all of them...
His final scene is so cheesy I laughed and not in a good way.
He gives this creepy "I'm just here to have sex with you" vibe.
And that's why I romanced Thane.

It's weird how hard it is to get a "friend" vibe out of romanceable characters that you don't actually want to romance. I was just trying to be nice to Jack, and her response was "oh, you don't want to have sex with me? I'm never talking to you again."

She's like,"You are obviously only interested in me because you want to have sex!"
And if your nice you say,"Yeah your interesting" and she's like,"I knew it! I'm not in to chicks though."
Then she won't talk to you again...
You literally can not be a friend to her at all.
And if you're a femshep Miranda will never talk to you after her loyalty mission and that's not an exaggeration.

Jacob gets hated on an awful lot and he was one of my favorite characters throughout. Garrus seemed... more distant, than ME1. I thought Jacob was a legit guy, and I appreciated his honesty right off the bat. I like that he doesn't care for Cerberus, and he was the first character Shep could really trust at all.
I don't see why not having deep emotional issues or psychological scars make him any less interesting, I liked that he had his s*** in order and his head on straight.
Jacob is my boy, enough said
