Playing an Adept focused on disabling plus Unstable Warp for AoE damage, is there much point to having both of these powers, or are they so redundant as to be irrelevant?
Pull Field is nice for the quick recharge, but Singularity seems to keep enemies clustered together better for the Warp explosion damage. (Plus, Singularity is permanently hotkeyed to the Y button, and I try to go into the radial menu as infrequently as possible.)
I suppose you could use Singularity to block one space while using Pull to draw enemies up into the air elsewhere, but I wonder if those points would be better spent on Throw, which is a nice last-moment save power for when enemies get too close. Plus, it can be used to chuck enemies farther who are weightless.
Thoughts?

I don't think there's any real doubt that Singularity is a superior CC if you rely on AoE damage. Pull is much better if you rely on precision weapons and powers, as it throws enemies up above cover so you can still move and shoot. With singularity it's likely that you'll end up having to hold position to shoot them.

Generally, you use them together. If all you're doing for Throw is as an emergency pushing power, then you don't need to level it up. One point is fine for that.

Pull Field is good enough for mopping up any enemies that happen to get past your Singularity, and it lasts long enough and cools down fast enough that you can more or less spam it. I don't like it because it tends to fly enemies all over the place, but for control, Pull Field + Singularity equals mass shutdown. Just make sure you can take down those defenses.

Singularity is better because it roots enemies, even if they still have protection. It is also a DoT on protection by the way.

I was mixed about this as well but found that Singularity could grab people that were behind cover. It worked great with pull though. I would toss out a sigularity then start spamming pull around the room while my teammates cleaned house.

These are my observations:

Singularity-

a. Able to lift foes from cover

b. Long lasting

c. Amazing vs melee enemies

d. Casting multiple times overwrites previous fields

Pull-

a. Much shorter cooldown

b. Pull field rarely pulled more than one or two into the air (seemed like a waste)

c. Could curve shot but not as effective at covered enemies

throw field is really awesome against husks and mechs. Works very well with heavy singularity to throw the entire group.

i used throw field with my sentinel and i think i was doing equal crowd control as when i used all the biotics an adept has. so you really dont need more then one biotic CC ability. one might be slightly better then another but its not a big deal. any non biotic can pick up slam and become an equally as efficient functioning CCer as the adept. spam slam every 3 seconds is the same as spamming singularity every 6? seconds. atleast to me. singularity might be the best since it can work on shielded or armored enemies, but for a class specific talent, it sucks. biotics in general suck in ME2. which is weird comming out of my mouth, becuase i would punch someone in the face if they said biotics sucked in ME1. definaltey not the same things going on in ME2 as ME1. bummer.

Why would you throw the entire group when you could do more damage and just as much knockback with a warp explosion combo?

In the case of Husks? Because they die instantly the moment their feet leave the ground. Hitting them with an AoE incinerate/grenade/warp (preferably from an ally) and following up with an AoE pull/throw is a much faster kill on husks than a singularity/warp combo.

Because its fun, and clears the area without using a long cooldown in case you have more things charging you.

when i play a sentinel, throw field anihilates any husk it touchs. i havent had a near death problem with husks except when they have armor.

Thanks for the tips. I think I will save Throw for when I play a Sentinel. For now, I am getting really fast Wide Singularity/Unstable Warp combos (while spraying wildly with an Avenger) and taking out big groups of enemies all at once, but using Pull Field when I need to leave a Singularity up to cover a doorway or bridge. It is working pretty well.

We actually have a discussion thread specifically related to these questions over at

For the record I prefer wide singularity.
