I found that ME1 had much more side-questing and such involved.
the more discs for ME2, being [WARNING: Opinion on the Internet!] that the intro/outro from Disc 1, weren't 100% game engine, and therefore, were saved as cinematic views... which requires much more space.
Thats exactly the reason the old PS1 and even PS2 Final Fantasy games were/are like 4+ Discs.

It wouldn't make any sense to have a second disc just for intro/outro scenes. They may not have been 100% game engine but they also could not have been 2gbs big. Think about these things before posting. Or go back and read a few posts and get educated.

It doesn't really bother me, but maybe it's because of the sheer number of possibilites that could happen in the end game?

High quality HD video(like ME2's) gets quite big. A couple minute video can rack up triple digits in the MB. Anyway, why prerender so much? None of the prerendered scenes would be terribly complex or graphically demanding for an average PC. I don't see why they bothered consuming space with it. The Lazarus stuff makes sense though, that'd be tough to do RT.

audio files are HUGE. I swear the dialog probably makes up half the game's data.

This game has alot of content. I don't know where you got this game was short. If you really did every quest it would take you 40 hours. Don't know how you could have missed all the stuff you could have done. You know if you didn't play all of ME1 and didn't import a save file to ME2 the game locks off content because you didn't play all of ME1.
And its also based off the choices you made and if your good or bad. Now I can't even remember how many times I went through this game. Like 5 times. Takes about 20 hours to go through the main quest. Everything else 10 or 20 more to get every upgrade and to talk to everybody in the game. No skipping dialog and if you go through all the possible dialog you'd have to beat the game I don't know how many times. I haven't done all the possible playthroughs yet. Its prob not possible to get every possible outcome.
This game is so fun and awesome because its different every time you play through depending on the choices you made in the 1st game. I like playing the different classes. But the most fun is what I have through the dialog. Its my choices that deside the outcome and they have been different outcomes every time. Its very intresting how much replayablity this game has. All the different choices you can make through ME1 and ME2 make it a different experiance every time.
The possible outcomes in the ending of the game are in the many dozens. Any one character can die in a number of places depending on who you choose and if you got the upgrades or not for the normandy and if you failed a loyalty mission or not or picked the wrong one for the job. And the main ending also has 4 main outcomes a 5th if everybody dies even you and thats just what I know of. And the ending is slightly different depending on how many of your team mates die. But the ending seqence can have many different outcomes like if you missed some upgrades to the Normandy. It will show the Normandy take damage and possibly kill somebody whos in that unupgraded section. Your crew could die if you take too long doing loyalty missions at the end. This makes the possible outcomes of the final mission insane.
There are 3 or 4 different ways to fail or get through some peoples loyalty missions and have good bad or neutral ends to each of them and effect their performance at the end of the game. I've lost people loyal to me who died because some where not loyal. LOL I lost legion to a shot in the head he was loyal some of my team was not, garrus to a swarm because one of the bionics was too weak the asari chick. She wasn't loyal but garrus was. And I had jack die to trying to get one person back to the Normandy and the rest of the crew died. I have also gotten perfect endings before and one where I just lost one person.
Just amazing how complex this game is. And its just insane how many possible outcomes the final battle can have. Its always fun to go through to try different stuff to see what might happen.
