In ME2, if you walk around and shop in the Citadel, Illium or Omega, you're more than likely to stumble upon an intergalactic book or magazine.
One specific one I remember has some sort of blue, sluggish alien on the cover. When I bought it, I thought to myself, "Wow! Bioware gave us some bathroom reading material!" Well, this was not the case for me, as when I hurried back onto the Normandy, I found no reading material that I spent 5 credits on.

For those who have come across this for yourselves, is there ANY way to read these in-game books or is it just a money waster? Where do they go once you bought them? The Codex perhaps? Or on the side wall of Shepard's private quarter's bathroom?

Its in the codex. You cant actually read the book itself but you can read on what the book is about.

It shows up in the codex, but you don't actually read the contents of it. It just talks about what it is.

Considering that two of those books are ones that you can buy in real life, it wouldn't be a good business choice to put them in the game, even though few would probably read them from the screen, and the third is hard core porn - not really something suitable for a game like this.
