There is no doubt that Mages & Demons are some of the strongest monsters in the game.  And Manaclash will instakill most mages.  But is that spell line really worth it?  I already have the first three glyphs.  Should I just take Glyph of Neutralization or go after Manaclash?

If you're running a party, it's not really necessary as there are plenty of alternatives for killing/disabling mages. On the other hand, I like spell might a lot. At high levels, 20+ SP is hard to pass up.

For a solo caster, I'm definitely taking it. 'Neutralized' does not equal 'Dead' :P

In my opinion, Manaclash is worth it. The area of effect is much larger than Glyphe of Nestralization, and all a mage has to do is move out of the glyph to be able to cast again. Not that any enemy mage in the game is that intelligent, but still.... The glyph is also only temporary. Death, on the other hand, is permanent.

Not for the PC. Problem is that you need mana clash early in the game, but it won't be of much use for most fights. I give it to the 2nd mage in the party, and give my main PC the crowd control and damage which is much more useful early on.

If you already have 3 glyphs then no. You only need one powerful anti-mage spell. I like manaclash because sometimes the game throws in afew mages that are spaced apart such that they are out of GoN's range. However, I have not gotten encounters with mage spread far enuff to avoid a single manaclash.

Btw, killing the 4 bloodmages in a side quest in brecilian with a single manaclash is pretty hilarious.

It's worth it.

Problem wiht glyph of neutralization, you protect the enemy mages from your own spells.  It can back fire on you.  I think it's more useful casting on a tank,

With Mana Clash you do not have that problem and oyu never have to worry about mages.  Mana cleanse can be useful and you need spell might for storm of the century and other combos so the line is worth it.

Best

Spell

Ever

Since I got that spell on Wynne with the tactics "Enemy Mage > Mana Clash and Enemy Using Magic Attack > Mana Clash" I don't think I've had to stab a caster yet...just have to loot their bodies after the fight is over.

I got Mana Clash for one of my mages, but think I won't get it in future. It actually makes some combats too easy. Like those four bloodmages you run into in the forest. I was geared up for a semi-tough combat, then Blair fired off Mana Clash and they all dropped dead. . .

Personally, I prefer the Glyph. It's much more versatile as you can use it as dispel or even anti-magic ward. Fighting multiple mages is quite easy if you just send your tank in, drop the Glyph on him and watch the mages waste their mana. ... Well, don't try this if your tank is an AW, obviously.

If your main is the mage then it's a pretty safe 250 damage achievement too, for what that's worth.

I like both... use a Glyph on a Blood Mage and it starts using Blood Magic instead, which can be more unpleasant than whatever mana-powered spell it was going to use. Mana Clash is my first line of defense against mages, the Glyph is still useful for dispelling or if there are multiple hostile mages spread out over an area. The Glyph is also nice for those unfortunate situations when Mana Clash is resisted or doesn't quite kill the target (happens with some higher level boss types).

Someone upthread mentioned an NPC mage can just move out of a Glyph and cast again, and while that's true, most NPCs aren't that smart (and even if they are, they have to wait for mana to regenerate), so I consider it a good investment regardless. Having both spells can start feeling a little overpowered, but sometimes that's fun (and you can always crank up the difficulty).

I always stack Spell Might, and Spell Wisp so Mana Clash is always a possibility on my mages.

It's my favorite spell in game, so yes, it's worth it. Coupled with spell might, you basically can wipe out every non-boss enemy mage by casting that spell once. Because it not only destroys mana, but it turns enemy mana on the caster and damages them.

I made it through the blood mage hideout dropping that spell on every mage I saw, and never died or came close once. Those mages that do survive it, mainly high powered bodd or elite mages, take so much damage and lose so much mana you can pretty much have your none mages clean them up no problem.

It also rocks when fighting gaxxkang. Use it combination with Alistair's holy smite ability. Mages cease being a problem after that.

It'll kill Zathrian outright, even without vulnerability hex depending on when you fight him.
