I wasn't sure where else to post suggestions, but I've played the game through a couple times now, and just had an interesting idea for future content... specifically, relating to the addition of skills, talents, and specialisations. The idea is partially based on some mods and discussions I've read, where people are trying to force all companions on the field at once, mainly via the console. The idea is basically this;
At a certain point in the game, when you have a large enough group and are officially recognised as leader and representative of the Grey Wardens, you inherit a new "four-point" specialisation (skill, talent, whatever you like) that reflects this. As the leader, you also gain a horn.
The horn would allow the PC to summon his/her companions to the battlefield, bringing all under his/her control at once... not just the usual three, but potentially all you have aquired! I know all of you are already thinking "NO!", and that it'll just be too overpowering, easy, and would therefore completely spoil the game. However, that is not the intent, nor purpose.
When all party members are summoned to the field, the PC and all companions become over-confident and relaxed, suffering massive 50% penalties to attack, damage dealth, and defense. This would mean the battles last just as long, and each member is more susceptible to damage. It would simply act in place of defense, giving the opposition more to think about. In other words, while the PC and each party member is taking more damage than usual, they arn't recieving as much pressure.
The "Battle Cry", as I call it, would last for five minutes, or else until the PC vacates the area, and would have a 30-60 minute cooldown. As an additional penalty, I think it is only fair that the PC suffers damage to his/her approval rating. On call, the PC loses a substantial amount of approval from all companions, as they would believe it was his/her stupidity and foolishness that got them into such a mess. As the fight rages on, the approval rating slowly increases toward its starting point, prior to the summoning. If the PC does something stupid, like summoning a mob to fight a wolf or something pathetic, he/she suffers the penalty and cannot get it back, except through the usual means (gifts, dialogue, etc).
The reason I suggested this should be a specialisation, and not just some object, is so the PC can put points into it. No different from any other talent, skill, or specialisation, the PC can relieve the penalties by a reasonable amount. You may have noticed earlier, that I said you could "potentially" summon the whole group. It would be my suggestion, that for every point you put into this specialisation, you can summon one additional party member. When the PC has put all four points into it, he/she is able to summon all.
I don't see it to be a problem, as by the time you have enough party members, the game is already getting more interesting. I also believe this could certainly lead to more lively DLC's, in the future. With all the penalties, it would give people little reason to abuse it. No doubt, the will be mods that remove such effects, as people seem despirate to make the game overly easy. But since this is just a singleplayer game, and as you can see by my profile, stats arn't recorded while there are additional and unofficial core files present, so that shouldn't matter either.
Basically, I find myself having several companions, whom are rarely used. Often, one would only require a warrior, a healer, and maybe a rogue if the PC isn't playing the part. Sometimes, you might find yourself being overwealmed, particularly if you're new to the game and have no idea of what lies ahead. The purpose of this is both to present an opportunity to break free of a struggle, and to make full use of the companions as a whole, even if for a short while. As mentioned, with those penalties in place, it seems reasonable, and it could lead to tougher content in the future.
