After I finished Tali's loytaly quest, I realised that she is the only one with that Russian-type accent.  Why does no one else talk like her? Er, I guess the question is why is she the only one with an accent?

It's actually Eastern European, and plenty of other Quarians share it.

Quarians don't have Eastern European accents. Eastern Europeans have Quarian accents.

Yes, because all humans have the same accent, quarians must!

More importantly, why does a race of spacemen that try to avoid the rest of the galaxy have accents found on earth?

Were you playing the same game? Almost every single Quarian has an eastern europian accent. Especially the head admiral.

In ME1, when Tali says "Saren is a danger to the entire galaxy," I always thought it sounded vaguely Irish.

Or am I crazy? Posted Image

You mean the head admiral, who is played by and has an IRANIAN actress and accent?

Or perhaps you are thinking of the American-English Kal'Reegar, Lia'Vael, and nameless Quarian on Ilium? Oh, and that one on Omega?

Maybe you meant the British Admiral Gerrel (iirc)?

Yes, yes, almost every Quarian does.

Have you ever listened to a Roma talking in English? It´s not Liz Sroka´s accent exactly, but good enough to be really close.

Quarians are thought to a great extent to be a kind of "space gypsies" so...

Eh. Auto-translators probably have some sort of accent-modifier for specific languages. Which begs the question: Why wouldn't every alien choose to have a scottish accent?

I thought that was explained in the first game (and mentioned in the second) as everyone having a translator.

Which would explain why all aliens talk with a midwestern accent (american? seriously? there's more than one type of american accent), because Shepard himself is english, and it would make sense that he would hear things translated in "Newscaster English".

But it doesn't explain why some aliens have their language translated with an accent.

seems each ship in the flotilla has a different accent among its population. It's probably Bioware's way of illustrating the different "cultures" among each ship in the flotilla in a way that's easy to understand... That's just my take.

Some interesting responses thanks guys (and I meant Russian-type, not exactly Russian itself).

Also, noticed some seething hate for daring to question Tali, god and ruler of all. To those: get over it.

Quarians have many different accents, just like everyone else. Since everyone in ME uses a universal translator and these are probably supported by VI and other heuristic processing systems, the translator in someone's Omni-Tool processes syntax and inherent accents and then translates them to the user using context data and personal preferences. I bet if Shepard wanted Tali to sound like a Korean speaking French with a Texas drawl he could.

It's the future people, user friendly

If the entire population of earth hopped into starships to flee their toaster ovens, you'd hear alot of different accents on those ships as well.

Heck, if you just put the entire population of New York City into ships you'd hear huge variation. So why should every Quarian have the same accent?

the accent probably depends on the ship

I wish you could choose what side you can support in mass effect. I support cerberus.

Eastern European accents = very attractive

Other Quarians have her accent as well. Quarians who do not have a particular accent must have spent a majority of their time away from the Flotilla and grown out of their accents adopting a neutral accent.

While they aren't necessarily the *same* accent, a number of quarians do speak with something other than a North American English or British English accent: Shala'Raan, Rael'Zorah, Prazza, Daro'Xen, and I think Veetor. Possibly the dying quarian you find on Rannoch when trying to rescue Koris - I can't remember at the moment.

I don't see why quarians can't have different accents. There are variable accents and dialects within individual countries IRL.

It's added by the translator built into shepards omni tool, It randomly adds accents to peoples voices when it translates them and the feature cannot be turned off.
