I create this thread on the upcoming Square-Enix title Final Fantasy XIII (FFXIII).

Posted Image

Revealed today was a FFXIII special edition Xbox 360.  It contains 2 wireless controllers, 250gb hard drive, and a copy of FFXIII.  According to the Major's Minute on Xbox Live (XBL), one recieves a special edition FFXIII faceplate for pre-ordering this console.  Just now waiting on news for a Xbox 360 regular collector's edition of the game for North America.

Are there any other promotions for FFXIII?

Any word on the special edition FFXIII Playstation 3 (PS3) arriving outside Japan?

P.S. Wish they had a Mass Effect 2 special edition Xbox 360 console.

Nice, I remember a sexy PS3/FFXIII bundle that's been out in Japan, with FF art on a white case and a pack of Potion drinks. <3

I was expecting more of a buzz on this game here seeing as Final Fantasy is known for it's cinematic RPG experience and that Liara T'soni's VA (Ali Hillis) voices the cover character.

FF13 is the reason I didn't go for a PS3 for last Christmas... It wasn't out yet. But it'll be out by next Christmas, so the PS3 will be next Christmas's target, with FF13 as it's starter game if possible.

I'm in the USA, so maybe that'll also give FF13 Special Edition-like stuff time to show up here, in addition to time for PS3 prices to drop! :D

The game comes out 3/9/10. So it will be out by next Christmas, but if you can afford it now, why not get the special edition xbox 360 with it's beautiful final fantasy xiii logo etched on the HD and the FFXIII faceplate.

Now that I think of it, what's the major differences between the PS3 & the Xbox360? I gotta PS2 atm, but not an Xbox, so I have to admit I don't know a fat lot about the Xbox series of console. I would never be able to afford to get both a Xbox360 & a PS3 & hold both in my room at once, so I would have to choose between the 2 for next Christmas.

The major difference is that the PS3 will play Blu-Ray.

And built in wireless b/g and
bluetooth.  While the 360 does not have have built in wireless, it does have an N adapter (as well as a b/g adapter).

Software, however, is the real major difference.  Here are lists of games for both systems -

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Xbox_360_games

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PS3_exclusives

When comparing the lists, I would only compare the exclusive columns maked with Yes (Green Box).  Since you seem to play PC, console exclusive does not appy to you.  For your unique scenario, PS3 is a better fit since based on this thread you like the Final Fantasy series and play games on PC.  However, I will point out that Hironobu Sakaguchi's (the creator of the
popular Final Fantasy series) Mistwalker only has RPGs (between PS3 and x360) for the 360 -- Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey.  Also these lists some games that were released on both systems outside the US (i.e. Tales of Vesperia).

Additionally PS3 currently has exclusive rights to Final Fantasy Versus XIII, an action-rpg set in the same universe as Final Fantasy XIII.  It is supposed to be the darkest Final Fantasy yet, so if you liked Dragon Age, that game in the FFXIII universe may even be more of a fit for you (release date pending though).

*edit*
Misspoke earlier when saying Mistwalker only had RPG's on the Xbox 360.  Spring 2010, it is expected Mistwalker will announce an RPG for the Nintendo Wii -- The Last Story

Posted Image  Then again, it is the Wii.

Edit: ??? Why isn't the Link auto-Hyperlinking?

You probably should not follows these online articles as the information isn't relevant nor really reliable.

Besides, we've already discussed xbox 360 vs playstation 3 from a final fantasy stand point.  For more on which console you should buy it probably should be in another thread.  Not trying to reprimand you, but trying to also prevent this from becoming some kind of system war 360 vs ps3 thread.

Wait for it to hit the shelves. Although I think most of the BioWare fans here wouldn't care to even grudgingly appreciate FF-like games

I'm ordering the Collector's Edition!  Although it only contains a selected Original Soundtrack, hardcover artbook, three art prints and a decal, I'm a sucker for these types of deals and I'm don't get them often.  I would have preferred an exclusive figure or a full OST though. :innocent:

The FF series died at FFX.

Well prepare to be proven wrong next month. I've seen a lot of gameplay videos and FF13 is absolutely Godgasmic. ★

I am seriously considering picking this up.
Not the game, or at least not just the game, but whole package.
A 250 GB HDD and the game and a new console and controllers.
And then I can sell my 120 GB HDD, console, and controllers (all which work perfectly) and recover close to all but the cost of the game plus some money for the HDD.

So very tempted. I've not really played an FF since 7, but this one looks amazing.

(7 on the PC, BTB - biggest reasons I've not played more is I've never own a Playstation)

Not planning on getting the game, though I would've expected the 360's paneling to be tricked out at least.

I got the Modern Warfare 2 bundle which did basically the same thing plus custom decal job on the console.

I don't mean to be a downer, but compared to the Japanese Lightning bundle PS3, it's a bit lackluster. They could have at least made it look special, in terms of the color, or design.

If I ever do end up getting a PS3, I'll get FFXIII, but I'll be importing a copy from Japan. The VA is atrocious in the English version, and my favorite Japanese seiyuu is voicing Snow.

Besides FFXIII, I'm more excited for Versus. The guys are very hot...especially Noctis. I want a FF Versus XIII Noctis PS3 bundle

Good idea. Games like that should have an option for the original voice-overs with English subtitles, like most licensed anime releases and stuff these days.

and yes, Versus does look way too cool. ★

Yeah, I import all of my Japanese games because of the horrible VA. It's so bad it makes me cringe. Not only that, but I get to play the games before everyone else, so another plus to importing. Only downside to importing is you have to know Japanese in order to play. Fortunately I'm semi-fluent so it's not a problem for me. For others though, the language makes the game unplayable, so they are stuck with the bad voice acting in the English version. IMO, they should just translate the game, subtitle it, and keep the Japanese VA. Stop wasting money on poor voice acting.

True, most JRPG's have terrible english VA...

ThoughI think a lot of it isn't the actors fault, but a result of the fact that the type of over the top voice acting (and squeeky female voices) just seem weird in english. In a JRPG or anime it works when it's in japanese, not as good when in english.

Well I guess that the horrid pacing and terrible writing of some JRPG cutscenes doesn't help either (Yes, Eternal Sonata, Im looking at you, now go stand in the naughty corner).

Though Persona 4 had really good VA IMO

I could see an argument for that since Hironobu Sakaguchi left Square-Enix in 2004.

In
addition to the faceplate, the hard drive is engraved with "Final
Fantasy XIII".  It's a nice subtle difference in contrast to the regular
console.

Geh...I have to disagree. I imported P4 before it came to the states, but my friend had a copy of the English version so I gave it a go. I literally shut the game off after 15 minutes...the VA made it unplayable for me.

The VA was fine methinks. It's just a lot of the dialogue was pathetic.
