So going through the dialogue with EDI at the last part of my 3rd playthrough I am beginning to get an understanding of why the reaper was human. Through some of the Investigate options it made sense that the Protheans attempted but failed to make a Prothean reaper.

So my conclusion is that each new reaper that is created is representative of a race that has been wiped out by the reapers or will be wiped out by the reapers. The reason the Protheans were not all killed but used as labor was that they could not produce one. So there will be an Asari, Turaian, Salarain etc... reaper or conceptually anyway.

Perhaps with more incite as well, one could say that the reapers see races at their pinnacle and use that as the code for the Reaper core, they do not see the destuction of the species and the turning of the species into the reaper as evil, but as a way to preserve that species at its apex of civilization (almost as if each species has to prove that its worth preserving through the creation of a reaper).

Maybe I am wrong, but thats my thought atleast.
