Leiliana is good at telling stories. I don't think she's a liar. But the real question is whether I buy her stories. She doesn't say that much about her past until you encounter the failed ambush... then there's suddenly a story of betrayl, imprisonment, etc. I now think back to when I meet her. She is in a tavern... listening to gossip. She's infiltrated the chantry not the wardens. Her original mission has something to do with the chantry. She seems to have heard of the commotion with the wardens, she encounters you're party and then suddenly wants to follow you into harms way when a good chantry girl should be tending to the wretched and poor all around you. Something tells me this was not a part of Marjolain's plan. Leiliana seems to have discovered something she was not suppose to know about or care enough about... but why follow the wardens?
Is Leliana up to something...?

Hate to say it (Being another Leliana fan)
But I see Marjoliane returning to kill her, the game dialogue puts the kill Marjoliane options bottom of the list. Theres our cameo in the vein of BG2 cameos.. Its not funny, dont do that.
Another cop out would be.
She tries to become a Grey warden and... fails.
PC : "Oh dear... :?"
Leliana :"The maker told me to help the world, by becoming a grey warden! :wizard:"
PC : "Ehh... ooo-kay! Join us brothers and sisters and whatever else, please, do feel free to drink some blood... <_<"
Leliana : "Uhh... that's... not as cool as I..."
PC : "I am sorry, Leliana:bandit:"
Ditto, except I had a tooth pulled and it hurts so bad to laugh, but I couldn't help it.

I liked her as a best friend for my girl elf. Her comments on the relationship with Alastair are great - and I loved his 'Pretend you're a woman, Leliana' dialogue. But her accent drove me crazy. And when I made a male elf & decided she'd be his lover, she came off as too girlish & manipulative. I decided he'd wait for someone more interesting. (He wasn't into the psycho-goth aspect, so I left Morrigan for my human guy) She didn't seem up to something to me, anyway, but the 'I can manipulate anyone into anything' annoyed me. And if she said 'Marjolaine' once more, I would have found a way to tape her mouth shut.

Because she's nuts.
Leliana is an archdemon short of a Blight. A Paragon short of a House. A lath short of a family.

I romanced Leliana (I wish now I had chosen Allistair because I think it had more plot importance as well as greater heartache when he terminates the romance) and it would just break my character's heart to be betrayed by her first love.
Very dramatic though. Wow. I did wander if Leliana would stab my character (literally) in the back after the confrontation with her mentor but I stood by her. I wonder if bioware should have pulled that off. Maybe at the end you could either win her back with a high enough approval or she could noble sacrifice herself.

Off topic but if I have in my head the events after the Landmeet if my character had been romancing Allistair and sought to put him on the throne. Remember that my character is still a very young person, I think it woujld have been interesting (more from a story telling POV than game design where you want to give the players more control) if she had gotten Allistair on the throne only to have the Arl reveal that he had engineered a marriage between Allistair and Anora!
Noble Allistair, caught between kingdom and his love, had chosen the latter and hid the truth while the Arl thought it the most sensible thing and never mentioned it to the warden since who knows how she would react. A bit of the grey morality we have the in the world: even the "good" aren't immune to pragmaticism.
Admittedly, it's more for a novel (or fanfic approach) rather than video games but I think the grappling of emotion as the warden dealt with the heartache and betrayal (remember, my city elf is probably only 18 to 20) would have been fun to explore... just not in a video game.

For what its worth, Wynne trusts Leliana. Wynne immediately sees through a Morrigan romance. From a character perspective, if anyone would see through a deep plot, it would be Wynne. My PC trusts Leliana not to do me harm.

I find it odd that you say all these negative things about her yet claim you like her.Maria Caliban wrote...
