Well, she does seem to have glowing eyes.

People don't really want a space elf, they just want Tali to be attractive to a human male

Corrected

My favourite interpretation of her appearance so far. Although it is hard picturing her voice fitting the appearance.

Sadly they won't look like that as it is mentioned in the codex and in Ascension that they don't have ears like humans do it says something like "What passes for the Quarian equivilant of a human ear", I can't imagine that'd simply refer to shape.

Agreed.

The artist is talented but she looks like a human with exotic eyes and pointy ears. If Tali is ever revealed she should be at least somewhat attractive to human eyes since she is now a potential LI for Shep, but she should still look like a different species. She's an alien whose ancestors evolved on a planet with different enviromental conditions than Earth. Her appearance should reflect that.

Sadly many of the fan artists don't have much imagination, and Tali continually is portrayed as being nearly human. Aliens that are physically identical to humans might work on Star Trek but it shouldn't with Mass Effect.

But if you look into Tali's mask long enough you can see a human like face in there. She doesnt have tentacle mouth, but she can have scales.
But i think Quarians will have more of a human appearance, might be something like with the Asaris for the human like appearance.

That's more of a practical issue and a psychological one.
It's much easier to put a human in make-up than have a very outlandish alien. It's also easier to motioncap a human type alien in a game. The other reason is that people being human find it easier to identify with something that is humanlike.

StarTrek does actually explain why the aliens are similiar in one of the Next Gen episodes.

I don't think you can blame the fan art. They are only going by what Bioware have left as a base. You can see through the visor to some extent so a lot of the detail is filled in, it's just finer details that are missing. For example does she have white pupil less eyes, or is that as some people say a reflection of the visor. Is there some sort of gas in there that makes her eyes glow ? Regardless of which, it's a fact that she has 2 eyes so drawing her with less or more would just be silly and not even qualify as fan art.

Do not want space elves.
Of what we know about the quarian appearance, we don't have to have space elves. Besides the asari, already fit that role.

In fact, the quarians could potentially look as alien (or more!) as this well known fellow:
Image IPB

Why? Take a look at the ME Wiki on Quarians:

Quarians are generally shorter and of slighter build than humans.
Quarians have an endoskeleton, lips, teeth, and two eyes with eyelids
and tear ducts; they also have three thick fingers on both hands which
include a thumb and an index finger, as well as three toes on each foot.
Their ears or ear analogues differ in a noticeable fashion from those
of humans, with references made to "what [passes] for the quarian
version of an ear".

Besides the fingers, that fits Thane quite well, doesn't it?

The bone structure in Tali's face may be similar to a human's, but that doesn't mean she should look human. She's a completely different species. She should be alien enough that if anyone who was unfamiliar with Mass Effect saw a screenshot of her, they'd at least recognize right away that the character isn't human, That isn't the case with some of the Tali fanart, which often has the character virtually undistinguishable from a human female.

That wasn't an intended as a criticism of Star Trek, where the lore of the universe had the human species spread throughout the galaxy while still in a primitive state. In Star Trek many of the 'aliens' are just human subspecies on other planets. That isn't the case with the Mass Effect Universe or the Quarians. So while Tali may have some similaries with humans due to convergent evolution, as a member of a species unrelated to humans that evolved on an alien world, she shouldn't be virtually indistinguishable from humans.

I'm not asking for anything so alien that it conflicts with already established canon, but she should at least be as alien in appearance as the Drell. Much of the fanart out there has her looking something like this:

http://mrorbital.dev...lar tali&qo=123

Or this:

http://implodinggoat...lar tali&qo=146

If I was not familiar with the Mass Effect universe, I'd mistake both works as being portrayals of humans.

If the Quarians turn out to be sexy space elves then I will kill them all myself.

The last thing this game series needs is space elves.

But seriously, I would prefer it if the Quarians looked at least a bit alien. Not just humans with a different color pallet for a skin color. Nothing too major, maybe one part Drell with a side of Turian.

The only thing Alien about the Asari is the colouring and the squid head. It maybe that the only really alien thing about the Quarians are the extemities. From the Wiki article they are very human like except for the ears so any face on shot would be human like.

We also know that whatever it was Shepard liked what he saw because he smirks during the romance scene just after removing her mask. You can almost hear him thinking "jackpot"!

I agree that Quarians should look suitably alien, but this probably isn't the way to go about it. You would fail that lawsuit.

Seeing as this is a revival of a thread that hadn't received any posts in over a year until yesterday, I'm going to close it. Also, discussion of specific characters and artwork goes to this forum now.
