However...

Alright, we're pretty sure at this point that it's regsvr32.exe that's hanging for some unknown reason. So if you encounter this problem on installing, open the task manager and kill regsvr32.exe. The installer should continue on installing after that's done. This could mean that engine.dll won't be registered, however, so you may need to do that manually.
To manually register the dll, go to "run" in your start menu and type in the following command:
regsvr32 "C:\\\\Program Files\\\\Dragon Age\\\\tools\\\\Engine.dll"
(or substitute the actual path to Engine.dll if it it's different from that). It should pop up a "success!" message. If it fails, it should hopefully pop up an error message that will tell us how to fix it once and for all. It should be safe to re-try this command over and over, registering the dll more than once is harmless.
I'm loving you right now, I hope you to know that.

it kills the install completely with task manager, I tried it earlier. sql 2005 doesnt run on windows xp sp3 as far as i am seeing on the internet.
I'm running SP3 and the above fix worked fine for me.

opened task manager when it got stuck and the only option was to end the whole setup, and it closed out the whole thing, arggggg!!!!
Possibly stating the obvious, but you want the Processes tab not the Applications tab, then look for regsvr32.exe and kill that.
Now i'm off to bed, it's one in the morning and i'm knackered.

Your in the wrong tab. Go to the processes tab and end the regsvr32.exe process.

Using
regsvr32 "E:\\\\\\\\Program Files\\\\\\\\Dragon Age\\\\\\\\tools\\\\\\\\Engine.dll"
as my game is installed on my E drive... Tried with only \\ and \\\\, still nothing, process just hangs there.

question is : if I am on the 64 bit system which regsvr32 exe should I use to register Engine.dll after my toolset installation gets stuck and I kill the regsvr32 with Task Manager :
C:\\WINDOWS\\system32\\Regsvr32.exe or
C:\\windows\\syswow64\\Regsvr32.exe ?
I am asking because my Toolset runs but light map rendering throws the following error :
I: 02:24:46 - Could not get a GFF reader object. Make sure Engine.dll is registered.

Has anyone that has seen this solved it?
Edit:
I am on 32 bit WinXP sp3. I have tried registering the file manually, but it simply runs regsvr32 very quickly and exits, but upon inspection of the registry, the file does not appear to ever get registered. No messages are given by regsvr32.

"Unable to load the game engine DLL. This can be caused by the DLL missing, other required DLLs missing, or the wrong version of DirectX installed.
Run the toolset configuration program and verify your settings or search the toolset wiki [...] to help with this issue.
This toolset must now exit."
I took a look at the wiki, which suggested that engine.dll might not have been correctly registered.
So i tried manual DLL registration
Run > regsvr32 "D:\\Dragon Age\\tools\\Engine.dll"
and got the following error message (as admin, in both normal and safe mode) :
"The module "D:\\Dragon Age\\tools\\Engine.dll" failed to load.
Make sure the binary is stored at the specified path or debug it to check for problems with the binary or dependent .DLL files.
Specified module cannot be found.
."
(approximate translation as the error messages were in French).
Engine.dll does exist in the corresponding directory, and to be sure I copied it in another dir with a space-free path but got the same result.
Seems I'm lucky to even get any error message, but I'd rather get a working toolset :-)
Hope it helps solving this problem.
