Okay I am playing a Vanguard, the same class I played and loved in ME1. But I am getting a little ticked trying to get the Core power that makes the Vanguard a powerful up close fighter; getting charge to work. More importently getting it to lock on to an enemy and show me how much health and shield he has. When I do get this to work, I am often getting told that I am unable to charge, even when there is nothing in between me and them; which due to charges ability to phase threw objects while charging should make even enemies behind (non-cover) objects.

Any one else getting into this issue? Any one else not able to charge? Cause... I have only got it to work twice so far, though I am very new into ME2.

If they're ducked behind cover, it won't work. It doesn't tend to work unless you can see them, and it's physically possible to move there.

There should be no issues if there's nothing between you and your enemies, though.

This are not under cover though, completely open at times and it still does not work. And unless they are under total cover a thin piece of something like a pipe that is not cover should not stop it.

I will give you a perfect example; I just had this happen a few moments ago. Going to get Grunt, I just had a Krogan who was on a perfect straight shot from me, Jacob and Miranda are standing right near it. No objects inbetween me and it, no large open gap, just him a good bit a head of me and where I sent my squad. Its standing there, open and exposed, I aim my gun at it and slam the key where my Charge is hotkeyed to. Nothing. Again, nothing. Not on cooldown. No cover between it and me, no nothing. It wouldn't charge him. It would show me his HP, lock on to him (which it is having trouble doing at times). I can walk right up to the damn thing and unload my shotgun into its skull, but use my Biotic charge....It denied me.

Here let me provid a screen shot of one the times I try to charge and fail that I am speaking about.

and another, I will also grab one of one the many krogan on open ramps I can't charge.

Two attempts against two different krogan very simalir to the example I spoke of.

That is really, really strange. I just did that planet a couple days back on my Insanity Vanguard, and had no problems charging. I'd hate to suggest this, but try reinstalling it.

Might have to do that, thankfully I am only a hour or 2 in to ME2...so I can repeat it all with not much trouble.

Have you altered anything in the .ini? Not all of the lines have been figured out yet, so any number of things could cause unexpected problems.

You can keep your saves, but in the event that happens again right after the uninstall, I'd start a new profile.

No I have not touch and do not plan on touching any files of any kind. I am not tech savey enough to want to try and I'd worry to much about messing something up.

Could this, and this may be a out there thought, be some how linked to my Imported game from ME1? Its a perfectlly good file though which is odd, as I have not and do not think I will use any the ME1 cheats, so there shouldn't be any issues.

Sounds like the same issue people are having with targeting useables, just to a lesser extent.

I had the same problem (hence why I stopped playing Vanguard) until I figured out it was a graphics issue. If your computer is below recommended specs (mine is even below minimum) I strongly recommend playing on a lower resolution with less graphical fireworks.

Another thing that helps a lot is to make sure your videocard settings do not force any anti-aliasing or other graphical refinements. Set to 'let 3D application decide' in the respective control panel.

Turning off dynamic shadows and harmonic lighting (latter only possible in configuration tool of the launcher) helps a LOT as well.

After turning my gfx down like that, I had no trouble targeting enemies anymore whatsoever.

Hope this helps. Good luck!

Hmmm I have a ATI Radeon HD3450 with 256MB and 4GB of Ram, as well as a Intel Core2 Quad Q3900 processor. So I should be with in the System requirements shouldn't I? At least pretty damn close to it if I am not mistaken.

But That does sound like a good thing to try out to see if it works.

Let us know how it goes so it can be confirmed that gfx settings are the issue, or denied so we can look further into it :)

Well I did a un and reinstall. So I will leave my settings as they where (since I made it save my Settings and Saved files) and see is I have the problem still. If I do I will adjust my Graphic settings, and see how that effects it.

What ever happens I will post it so if I still need help some one can help, or to thank those who did.

Hmmmm...Well I know the Uninstall/Reinstall did not fix it.

And I am trying to turn down my graphic as much as possible. Still I am having issues with Targets right in front of me even charging at them. I did as Jazharah suggested and turned off my dynamic shadows and Harmony lighting, it still had issues reading and targeting people. It has moments where it will target them and work, but 85% the time it is not giving me any target information even when a foe is standing in my face. the only thing I did not do was the one thing I could not find to change; that being set my video card to "Let the 3D App Decide" or how ever you term it setting.

So Gpx issues it does not sound like the issue :(

I could try and delete this career and make a new one but I am not sure that even fix it. This sucks since being able to target a foe is a big part the game and being able to target and charge them is an even BIGGER part of a Vanguard. Cause lets face it, you take away charge from a vanguard and what do you have?...No really, what do you have? Cause I can not think of much a vanguard is with out that power to run up and head butt a foe, then go in blasting people.

Since there isn't a video I can't be sure if this is your problem. But I noticed in your pictures that on the top left your powers are grayed out. If you use a power there is "cool down" period before you can use another. Make sure before you use your charge ability that your powers are cooled down. Hope this helps!

My Powers are off CD, if you look as well you will see the charge button in them should be blue as well, as I am clicking it it attempt a failed charge.

I am going to try a new Career and see if that can help.

Also let me include a picture, all graphics in game turned down, so you all can see the issue as it stands. Its of a Krogan right in my face yet I am recieving no target data on it.

Is there no one who can answer what is wrong here??

I will give out a quick run down again.

System is with in Specs for the Game; Intel Core2 Quad Q9300 Processor, ATI Radeon HD 3450 with 256MBs, 4GBs of RAM, and a over 600g Hard drive, using Windows Vista SP1. I have all my graphics turned down to nothing, no lighting no shadows no nothing. All the good goodness is off. I am having a problem being able to lock on to a target and charge them, as well as getting any basic enemy data that the game should display for me. No access to Health, Shields or Armor information on a pretty reg base. It works off and on, but more off then on. When it does display a lock on, it more often then not is flashing about. I also am getting this on use-able at times as well.

In your first photo you'd end up off a cliff, so it won't let you charge. I've had the same problem with those short distance charges, though (on the 360). It's annoying.

If you have low frames per second it will interfere with charge targeting.  update directx and video drivers and own.  Then you will feel the power of the vanguard

Okay, where can I get this driver updates?

Better Question, how can I be sure they are out of date first if all and need updating.

I'm skeptical this is a graphic issue. It seems to me more like a pathing issue from the game. I have similar problems with Charge, specifically in the last room on the Lazarus base, when the mechs are all inside a seperate room coming through a doorway. My PC specs are perfectly fine, and the fact that Techo Angel has every graphic option turned off proves to me its not just some kind of FPS synch lag issue.

This happens to me as well every now and then. Typically the sound I hear a split second before I die is "can't lock on", and sometimes I get the rubber band effect. Charge seems to happen, but boom your back where you started only standing up and exposed. But I generally reload(if I die from it) and do it again, and for me it works more often then it bugs.

Its not just just targeting Enemies, it seems like its also Allies as well. Plus the fact I just updated my ATI Radeon, and I am still having issues makes me feel it can't just be just my graphics. Also, my PC isn't out of spec, shouldn't be.
