I think Jacob is a pretty cool guy.  eh shoots his father and doesn't afraid of anything.

Seriously, though, he sorta reminds me of Cernd.  He's a nice guy and all, his personal quest is alright, I guess, but when you're in the same game as a crazy ranger with a talking hamster/singing alien commando turned doctor, he's gotta do something a little more to stand out.

He is one of my favorite squadmates, and he became a good friend for my black Shepard(and the bro hug wasn't as awkward). People probably don't like him because they are RACIST!

(I am white and not a racist)

I like Jacob exactly because he is normal. And, I love how he handles his loyalty mission with pops. He doesn't go alle mo either like 90% of the other characters 9I'm looking at you Tali, I'm looking at you Jack)..

Jacob is cool.

Also, from what I've heard, Female Shepard can't talk to him without flirting, something that irritates those who don't want to romance him

This is part of the reason I didn't like him much. Also some of the comments he makes about some of the squad members you pick up make him seem like a bit of a jerk. Like when he tells Tali to take some time to say hi to the ship's AI.

Jacob wasn't being a jerk, he was just being ignorant at worst. He doesn't necessarily know Tali's/Quarian's history with the geth.

The way he said it sounded like he knew very well that Quarians do not like AIs.

I have yet to romance him. I liked his loyalty mission more than I like him. Haha. He just seems kind of bland to me. Maybe I need to just talk to him more...

Its forgivable.  He saw his father go crazy and he watched all of his friends die on the Cerberus base.  Not to mention he is always surrounded by guns in a huge ship.

I liked him just didn't really see a use for him after I got Garrus.  My team usually consisted of a biotic user and a gun trotter.  Garrus, Grunt, Zaeed and Thane were all other gun trotters.  So Jacob never really got a chance to shine.

It's not that I hate him, but he's fairly boring and plain. This is a team of total badass' taking on the Reapers and saving humanity. Generic Joe doesn't really fit in that situation...

nevertheless, I trust him to have my back and it's "unfortunate" that he was unable to maintain the biotic barrier ;)

For me, Jacob was maybe a little too realistic. He's torn about a lot of issues - politics, the Alliance, Cerberus - and there's never a point where he makes any decisions about those things. He's just sort of...flapping in the breeze. He doesn't even really come to a resolution with his personal problems. I say he's realistic because there's a LOT of real people who are like that. Undecided, undedicated, wavering, double-minded, etc. But, it's hard to trust someone who is like that, who doesn't even know himself. It's hard to accept someone like that having your back - whereas, with someone like Miranda, she makes damned sure you know where her allegiances lie, so you never have to wonder. With Jacob, I never feel like I know he's loyal, even if my computer tells me he is.

I got a completely different impression. He was just trying to have her fit in, and inadvertently offended her. It doesn't really make sense for Jacob to intentionally insult Tali, considering he basically makes an effort to welcome all of the squadmates with courtesy.

between Miranda and Jacob, i like Jacob quite a bit.

short of Legion and Mordin, i take Jacob out with me.

of course Tali and Garrus are usually my main partners.

but occasionally i like to match Tali and Legion together. just looks pretty neat.

I liked Jacob just fine. Actually found his relative easygoing-ness a bit refreshing.

Jacob is cool.

<Spoiler>

In Tali's defense, her dad HAD just died.  I'd get all emo too.

Anyway, Jacob is an amazing unit.  Eh fights for his friends and eh doesn't afraid of anybody.

Jacob is a cool guy, he just kinda fits that Space Marine Hero stereotype a little to snugly. I really felt for him during his loyalty mission, but besides that he was a pretty flat character.

Hated Jacob, I could not stand talking to him and having the flirting shoved down my throat despite the fact I had no intention of romancing him or any of the other ME2 character's. I wanted to vomit and just avoided talking to him with femShep as much as I could.

TBH, I could not stand Jacob. Everything he said just came out awkward... I mean, I could see where he could have potentially been a decent character. It didn't help that FemShep tried to seduce him every time they spoke. I just wasn't a fan.

I *did* however like the way he handled his loyalty mission.

"I thought, we could just.... Talk..."
Nooo!!:o My Shepard doesn't talk or act like that for at least 3 converstations!

I thought the same way. I was like: "Whoa, whoa there. I just wanted to find out more about him, not more about him." Even when MaleShep speaks to him it sounds like they're flirting.

My first playthrough I deliberately got Jacob killed, just because I liked the idea of the boyscout dying, and the rest of my flawed and tragic suicide squad walking away unscathed. I can see Miranda or someone crying over his torpedo tube/coffin yelling "Why him? Why not meeee?!"

The why possibly being that he was pumping pheremones into the armory ventilation system and Shep wasn't gonna take anymore of that >.>

I saved him, well, saved every one, so, I hear if he gets carried off by the swarm you get to watch him get turned to goop, is that true?
