Oh liked Jacob quite a bit for Male shep. Nice guy who has your back, In the begining he asked me if I trusted him. I said yes instantly. Then I went on youtube thinking he would be a great match for femshep as a gentleman and well...

I was scared...I would not like to be a lady being persued by Jacob. I was like...who is this man, Great ab's sure, but the way he's talking is creepy to me.

Why wouldn't he accept Shepard as a homie?  I guess that's the part I don't understand.

I think what he means to say is, why does that behavior exist in the first place?  Why does he accept Shepard as a homie, and why does Shepard try to act that way?  Why is acting like a homie still part of black culture 170 years from now?

I agree with you that Jacob is a very positive, likable character that is not burdened with negative racial stereotypes.  I think he is just pointing out that it seems unrealistic or out of context for him to act that way, given that this game is set in like the year 2180 halfway across the galaxy.  Where is Jacob picking up those habits?  Not saying whether that is right or wrong, just trying to facilitate the conversation.

Lol. All it took was that ONE line. People forget that he was speaking uncharacteristically for much of the game.

It's been stated before, but it's just that tone that FemShep takes whenever she talks to him.

And since I refuse to get mad at my Shepard (or VA Jennifer Hale), I simply cast blame on poor Jacob and avoid any and all dialogue with him outside of his loyalty mission.  Shame, really...dem abs...

I think he had some serious potential...but bioware just didn't develop him. He doesn't even have his own reveal trailer. I appreciated his ideals, thought he could be quite interesting and then he just fell dead. Also, he was ridiculously useless in combat. Maybe that's why he was put out of people's minds? Romance was sort of forced with him on femshep's end. I think Jacob's VA did a good job but femshep sounded WAY too flirty. There were memorable moments with jacob, just not that memorable. The character deserved more, just can't pin down more of what..

Well, I took it to mean that there aren't many black people out there to begin with, and what few there are they've clung to some of their cultural habits.  Just look at Japan, totally modern, yet people still bow to each other.  Would we think that to be surprising in the Mass Effect universe considering they've been doing it for many many years?  Anderson wouldn't do treat Shepard that way (the same way my grandfather wouldn't), but Jacob (being younger) would and I would imagine it's a matter of racial pride, even in that day and age.

I think most people are just indifferent to him, considering him not not as interesting as the other characters and a bit more bland. Also, from what I've heard, Female Shepard can't talk to him without flirting, something that irritates those who don't want to romance him

True. Hard to avoid it, so I never bother talking to him.

If you're trying to insinuate that people are simply inventing this idea out of nowhere that Jacob's speech mimics the slang and attitude of modern-day African American culture, I think you have your head in the sand.

All Stereotype comments aside, I liked Jacob a great deal, and thanked Bioware for not just giving us another Kaiden, who was just so damn annoying. Jacob, from the start, is a trustworthy guy who never bull****s you about anything; he calls things how they are, and both in a Roleplay sense and in the Realworld I can appreciate that. Combat wise, the character was just a weaker Miranda, so I never put him in the Squad but I always looked forward to speaking with him once I was back aboard the Normandy. And yeah, funny as it sounds, it really felt like him and my MaleShep had a bit of a Bro-mance going at the end.

I honestly find both his and Jack's powersets dull and vanguard a disappointment this game.

Partly because I hate the ammo thing so while I didn't care for adept in first game, it's growing on me this game. And also I never understood how shotguns (one of the more popular and common guns in real life) require special training that only soldier's/vanguards get.

I find his powers very useful. Pull Field opens up a variety of offensive options. That's the only biotic power he needs. Jacob is also the toughest on the team next to Grunt. It takes a hell of a lot to bring him down when he has Heavy Barrier up. He's a main stay on my team. I rank him more powerful than Jack.

Jacob Taylor is the definition of loyal solider mostly as far as persona goes and that's what makes him crazy boring. I didn't use him much in my first game play anyway.

Not everyone has psychological damage. I like him--he's normal, unlike 80% of your crew.

I think he and Miranda should get together.

I dunno about Jacob. I didn't DISlike him, mind you, but... meh. He was bland. Got overshadowed by the awesome. Besides, I've had a 'nice guy human love interest' before that I liked more. You know, Kaidan?

...no, I'm not bitter that Jacob got a shirtless scene and Garrus and Thane didn't. >.>
