I couldn't get into his romance. First off Shepard comes on too hard from the very first conversation. She sounds really desperate and then if you actually follow all those cheap come on lines it freaks him out and he is all stand offish for a bit. Plus he keeps saluting me, even after we have some kind of flirtation. It was not done well at all, awkward all the way around. Best to just keep him as a soldier friend who I sometimes take on a mission, which is rare since I am a Vanguard and have similar powers and fighting style.

He's like the Kaidan of ME2, except he's not as wimpy/whiny as Kaidan was and he is a bit more interesting, more background information.

After my first playthrough with everyone surviving, I intentionally picked miranda as the biotic barrier expert and chose jacob to be on my squad just to get him killed.

I dont know why... whats wrong with me?

Jacob is devoid of any personality.  All he does is agree with and accomodate your character.  He doesn't bring any new ideas or new perspectives to the table.  That  makes him a non-entity.

The least he needs is to be given either an assault rifle or the biotic charge power to be even halfway useful.  Maybe then people will want to use him and build up familiarity through combat with him.

I trusted him, but as others have said, didn't like the way my femshep talked to him (I was staying loyal to Liara, and knew it from the start). Ok on Maleshep. I don't find his abilities all that useful as a squadmate though, so I rarely take him with me.

I liked the fact he saluted.  Frankly, I'd have everyone saluting most of my Shepards except maybe Mordin.  This isn't a vacation cruise and I want people in the "when Shepard says jump I'm in the air before I even think about it".  (And forcing Miranda to salute would be one of the first things I would do.)

So Jacob is shirtless in the cuddle scene but Miranda isn't? POO!

But yes, as others have said, he's one of the most stable, sane, and normal squadmates you have. Which adds up to make him a little uninteresting. Probably doesn't help that he's no so great in combat; if he still could rock Assault Rifles like in ME: Galaxy, it might help him some.

Even his loyalty mission feels a little weak in developing the character. He doesn't participate much until the end (except to say what's going on is messed up, which anyone can say. In fact, your other squadmate DOES say that.) It's a story that has Jacob's connection added to it, instead of a story about Jacob.

That's a non-argument.  Jacob definitely has his own opinions and a unique perspective on the game's situations.

I don't like him just because I'm a racist wanker.

Nah, I'm kidding, he's a good guy, I'd go for a few drinks with him but... I don't know... he's a friend, but he's not exciting... oh god... I want a bad boy >_
I feel dirty now.

But come on... Thane is an cold blooded killer (Drell are cold blooded, right?)... Garrus is driven mostly by rage and bitterness... they really are the bad boy options, aren't they?

-EDIT-
Oh hey, it doesn't censor wanker... Bioware, you have some really interesting language filters.

Well, I'm sure he does.  But not in a way that is unexpected or conflicting with other character's or my own views in any significant way, which makes him bland, IMO.

More mammalian than that. Warm-blooded. Live birth.

He was a good solider figure and a nice guy. I didn't see anything wrong with him. I just liked being evil to everybody but tali. But my play through as a hero did make a difference.

I don't mind Jacob but he tries too hard with his battle cry.

"Gravity's One Mean Mother Huh"

I think Jake's line is one of the better ones. Garrus's "One less to worry 'bout!" and Zaeed's "Heh, heh ...that was pretty."

I liked Jacob the least; I just found him really boring. I completely disagree he was forgettable because he was 'nice' - I thought he had little personality one way or another. Kaidan was nice and he was great. Jacob's bodyshape also looked slightly off around the hips, which I found very bizarre (same as I found Miranda's facial animationa a little off.)

Excellent loyalty mission, but again, not really because of him...

i like jacob and he actually turns into a nice friend for the male shepards very casual if you decide to be informal with him. he is a nice character but i like kaidan way way more than him.

not to mention jacob has one hell of a body!

I like Jacob. It's always nice to have a stable character in your team, someone with no big history they are just waiting for you to help them with. He does salute too much.

Oddly enough;

Seeing this scene, it occured to me that while pecs are really, really nice, I was more focused on how his neck wasn't seemlessly attached to his body. The lighting really threw me off.

It's funny, I was just thinking this is why Miranda's costume has a little choker.

Yeah the same problem happens when Miranda takes off her jumpsuit. Damn neckline can't they do something about it?

Mind you in the picture I posted with femshep and Jacob huddled together the neckline is not visible. Maybe it has to do with your graphics settings?

Possibly. I'll try and get a screenshot similar to yours to compare them. But that one I picked because it showed it the most clearly.

Edit: Right, got a shot. Clicky. Doesn't look anywhere near as obvious there. Still noticable if you look closely above the sternum.

I like to talk to all my squad members to learn more about them.  I avoid the flirty conversation options if I don't plan on romancing them.  However, every word out of my fem!Shep's mouth disgusted me with its flirtatiousness.  From the get-go it sounded like all she wanted was his man-meat.  I had managed to struggle through and get the 'just friends' end of dialogue with him, but it was so much work and I was so annoyed the whole way through that I will NEVER AGAIN ask to learn more about him on future female playthroughs.  Nothing but your loyalty mission completed for you, Jacob.  It's one of the few things I hate about ME2.

That aside, I don't see myself as having an issue with him while playing a male character.  He's just bland and the saluting is a bit much.  I like his straight-forwardness and mutual distrust/dislike of Cerberus.

I agree with the issues of FemShep talking to Jacob in an unavoidably flirty voice. Unlike some folks, though, I really don't like Jacob. I hate how he butts in every time someone comes on board the ship. Yes, it's a Cerberus vessel, but Miranda outranks him so why does he think I need his input every five minutes. I would love to have had the option to leave him with a nuke somewhere.
