If you take a look at this advice it really tells you to do what everybody else does. Why would you become king if there was nothing special about you?

Depending on how you go about it you might be successful. You may also earn a reputation for being self-centered and unlikeable. But sure, it's possible if you play your cards right. No one climbs the political ladder by being an overall nice and trustworthy person. Ascending takes a tremendous ego and ambition. It's possible to be cordial on the surface and be utterly selfish underneath. So... go for it?
