ME 1 for at the time it came out even though with many flaws it was something new and refreshing and the story/side story's made me replay it atleast 20 times.Image IPB

ME2 is a great sequal with a bunch of improvements but it does not capture the feelings I had in the first game.

I will say that Mordin is by far a fave of mine.Image IPB

Combat is a mixed bag for me since they are so different..... I would like to see maybe a combination of both for ME3 if it is possible.

ME2 besides character story missions and some side missions feels more stripped down but with more unique settings.

I wish they had more open for the Citadel then the small strips, and it seem that the outside character npc interaction was more robotic feeling and some of their talks where badly animated compared to the first for some reason.

I like the upgrade the same weapons but it seemed to stipped for what it was and the armor pieces where a bit low on how many ther where. I also miss the helmet remove button from the first ME that I wish was on ME2.

I still love ME2 and give it a 9 out of 10 but the replay value feels not as great to me till I see more dlc content.

ME 1 is really hampered by technical issues like stuttering and pop in, so ME 2 is a big win

From some of the posters in here one would think ME 1 was unplayable with all its technical issues. Nothing can be further from the truth. Just wow! Blinded much by graphics too i guess.
Technical issues is one thing most gamedevelopers mostly improve on in a seqaul anyway. A whole new concept isnt what I expected though.

Depends on whether we get 'Call Of Mass Effect'' instead.

Don't know about you, but I only found graphical improvement in the cut-scenes, everything else looked just the same as ME1 (minus lens flare).

It's the texture-popping, I think.  Some folks were apparently really really bothered by the texture popping in ME1.  Myself, I barely noticed it, and when I did I had no problem shrugging it off.  But I do know at least one person who found it really jarring every single time.

MASS EFFECT 2

- On a scoreboard of 1 to 10 I give you 5....

- Mass Effect 1 was better than 2

- The storyline was too predictable

- The lack of customization for your characters is lame, need more for character creation.

-

I don't like the generalization of weapons - it felt more like upgrading

when you picked up or shopped for new types of weapons vs just

researching it. It was always more fun to find better gear, gave you something to look for, that elusive piece of armor or weapon.

- Mining is tedious as hell... it's like you wanted

to slow us down from beating the game by making us go out to random

planets in order to get better gear.

- Picking up upgrades off the

ground, I think you should get better gear by completing key missions

or earning money and buying it off store vendors.

It seems more like all of your money was tied up into Dragon Age and so the sequels were just expected to make money because everyone liked the first 1. I promise I'll rent the 3rd and 2nd's of anything you put out before I buy them next time... and I'll probably encourage my friends to do the same thing.

I'm 28 years old married w/ 1 child (marketing demographics) I spend money on games

I consider to be good... if there's 5 good games in a month I usually

buy them if nothing comes out for 6 months then I don't.

Mass Effect 1 was great.. the story was progressive and involving. It is

honestly the best game I've played, sadly including Mass Effect 2.

Whoever was in charge of the storyline dropped the ball this time.

There was nothing to keep you involved with your characters. The game

is ok don't get me wrong, but I'm disappointed with the way it

played out.

Really a rotten story all around. I would say that within the first hour of

playing I already knew how the game was going to end.... that's pretty

lame (no disrespect intended to your storyboard guys, I'm sure they put

a lot of work into this). I hope you guys take this to heart and make a

better story play for the 3rd release.

Best Regards

Jason

After playing for a fair bit now I'd have to say that ME 2 is my preference but ME 2 falls lower in a couple of aspects.

Money and Shops - Really this aspect of the game has been so gimped that there really isn't any point to money or shops. The ONLY reason to have money and shops is to get item upgrades, which are sufficiently handled with pick-ups and research. There was no need to add upgrades as purchasable items at all.

The whole aspect of money has gone from one extreme to the other. In ME 1 you got money for doing pretty much anything and ended up maxing out the money counter before you could spend it. In ME 2 there is such a rediculous shortage of money that even if you did want to buy the handfull of items available in the shops you can't because you have next to no income. The only thing I buy from shops in this game now are the item and ability upgrades, not the armour pieces.

Skill Point Allocation - ME 1 wins this one hands down. Having to wait until you get blocks of skill points is just plain silly. You are forced to spend the skill points you get in a specific way and I just plain hate it. The boost you get from spending skill points has diminishing returns, i.e. you spend 1 point to initially get a +15% weapon damage boost, then you have to spend 2 points to get another, 3 points another and so on. So you have to spend one extra skill point each time to get the same boost. Personally I MUCH prefered the 1 point at a time method used in ME 1.

Things I really liked were things like the Normandy having much more functionality inside, the planets and mission points being more alive and not having the sense of being auto generated and devoid of life like planet surfaces of ME 1, greater varietly in enemy types, the more tactical combat, prettier graphics, the Paragon/Renegade interrupts, finding and researching item upgrades and a few other bits and pieces here and there.

ME1, on (almost) every point.

ME1 was a huge space opera with a fascinating story, fantastic and charismatic vilains with its own original gameplay, large levels, galactic exploration and gave you that feeling of freedom in a game was huge and connected.

ME2 was a (large) collection of short, straightfoward levels separated by long loading screens and end of level screens, wrapped in a very poor story that doesn't even do anything to enlarge the universe and make it more interesting. There's nothing in there that makes me want to know what happens next, either.

The only point where ME2 is superior to ME1 is the variety of the level designs: each mission has its own unique level design, unlike ME1, which had only 4 "types" of levels.

I found that I like both of them about equally for different reasons.

Story, ME1 had a great arcing storyline that unfolded as you progressed. ME2 doesn't unfold it seemed. It was more of a bunch of small stories you needed to do to finish the short arc. However I liked the character interaction/developement in ME2 much more. I was more attached to them in ME2 than ME1 mainly because you get to contribute more to their back story and also their ship dialog was deeper and more diverse.

Inventory, Equipment, and Upgrades. I am really indifferent here. The inventory system in ME1 was horrid, but I liked the diversity. Ultimately it did not make a difference since about 1/2 to 3/4 through either game you had your uber weapons/setup and did not need to worry about it anymore. The only thing missing in ME2 that was disappointment was no real custom armor for your team.

Exploration, this is where both games fall down. The whole Mako experience and reused layouts were a let down in ME1. The mining scanner replacement is not much better in ME2. Though the side quest enviroments were leaps and bounds better looking in ME2 versus ME1 ( I supsect those cost a fair amount of resource time to put together ) but the side quest story/design in ME1 felt better more connected to the universe.

Combat, I liked ME2 here alot better. It felt more paced and pressured than ME1. In ME1 I just dragged everything around a corner and shot gunned/biotic'd em to death or if outside just sniped them. ME2 felt more immersive when in combat, ME 1 felt I was wining through a game mechanic cheat.

Skills I actually like ME2 skill system better. It seemed like it made you chose what skills you wanted. At the end of ME2 there were still skills I wanted to level. I just restarted ME1 in hardcore and half through the game I have already maxed all the skills I want.

Immsersion, both I though were incredibly immersive. ME1 it was the story and universe. ME2 it was the combat and team/character developement.

Generally a bit more detail.

However the major thing for me was that it runs much smoother. Maybe that's a thing you notice more clearly on older systems. It made a hell of a difference on my laptop.

-Unfortunately ME2 fails miserably in any replay value. There just isn’t enough side quests to do. I didn’t expect it to come close to other games like Oblivion but it should have at least had more than the first game. If you have to rely on downloadable content to get any replay value then the developers failed at making a good game.

-The Citadel was a huge let down for me. Having access to the new Ward’s area wasn’t bad but it felt way to compact but not to be able to go on the Presidium?

One of the things I like most about ME1 that was made clear after playing ME2, and is something I think people often overlook, is that in ME1 Shepard doesn't feel like a spineless jelly fish.

ME2 all he does is straight up go along with everything. He never questions why he is doing the things he does or make any decisions on his own.

In ME1 The Council doesn't believe you about Saren, Shep goes out and proves them wrong. They tell him the Reapers don't exist to forget about them, Shep goes out and finds out how to stop them regardless. Udina grounds your ship and tries to shove you off to the side, you steal the damn ship and go save the galaxy anyway.

In ME2 you basically just take anything TIM says at face value and run off to do his bidding. There are a couple of times you can make a snide comment about it, but other than act like a whiney little kid you don't really get to do anything about it. You never confront Cerberus about the things they have done, you can't tell him to stuff it and go get your real crew back, you can't sell TIM out to the Alliance or the Council, the one and only time Shep shows any signs of having a back bone is at the very end of the game.

Shep never feels like that strong willed heroic leader he was in the first game. He's just a husk through which the player interacts with story elements and shoots stuff.

-How true. He is used like an assassin, using Thane’s meaning. Shepard is just the Illusive Man’s tool to get the job done. Don’t forget the Kaidan/Ashley encounter and how Shepard is practically called a traitor of the Alliance by them. Information that they believe based on rumors or second hand information no less. How did Shepard react? Did you even get any real dialog choices to defend yourself? Even if Garrus is with you at that point it’s the stale “Your working with Cerberus..” speech.

4 they are both awesomely epic
got to admit though I love playing through the finale in ME2 so much. I have a save at the Omega relay that I play all the time. It always feels so epic and important.
