I am only 16 hours and 27 minutes into ME2, but this is about the game mechanics and other things, NOT the story.
Before anyone bashes me,  keep in mind that this is meant to be constructive criticism. Not bashing, pointless complaining, or anything else. This is all my personal opinion, and I hope it's used as input for ME3.

There are a lot of things I have found to be better on ME2 then ME1. This includes, but is not limited to the graphics and sound (obviously), load times, and the conversations to name a few.

But, I have found there are some things I liked better in ME1.
The biggest thing being that ME1 was a RPG with FPS elements. ME2 seems very much like the reverse. Health levels, insane equipment options, leveling up and improvement options have been greatly minimized if not eliminated. For me, what made ME1 so good with the game play was the rather elegant blend of RPG and FPS. This unfortunately has been lowered. All of these things moves the series away from the RPG elements and more into a FPS.
As for what I personally would have liked is something built off the original system. having all the weapons and armor being viewed in a direct comparison allowed for a lot of information to be seen, with little "mess."
The way that some of the abilities need to be learned from loyal teem mates was a great idea, and I would keep that.
The HUD was nicer to me in ME1. The changes to the health system in ME2 allows the new HUD to work, but my feelings on that are above.

The whole experience points factor has been removed, making leveling up more of a surprise then an accomplishment.

From what I have played, I miss the Citadel. I enjoyed exploring it, and now it's been rather "compact".

I also for the most part enjoyed driving the Mako. Simply fine tuning the controls and the physics would have been good. Then giving the option of either exploring manually or using the scanner, or a combination would have been nice. (Face it, driving up a 90 degree hill or mountain was fun!)

I liked the previous cool down setup, where each ability had it's own cool down.

The subtitles could have been looked at more. I am playing on a HD display, but at times the text blends right into the scene, making them unreadable. Simply adding a black border around the letters would have eliminated.

For now that's all, but I will post any other feelings I have about it.
Also, debating with me is fine, as long as it's respectful.
