Posted Image why isnt this in the game? bioware dropped the ball on this for sure, still going to be a great game, but come on honestly, i know theres some that like strictly single player experiences but nowadays the majority like a little social interaction in our games...

4 player co-op woulda been great ecspecially for the console users. think about the epic boss encounters they could implement with the idea of having to team up with a group of real people to make strats and overcome.

endgame would have been fun in this regard i think.

Oh well. still can't wait for this epic game!Posted Image

You want a real answer? The idea here is that most of the game revolve around the NPC you bring with you and the story. If you go with multiplayer, you'd have no banter at all and you'd have to slow down on story too.

Seriously, there's way better for you if it's Co-op you want. DA:O is OBVIOUSLY not the right game for that.

Agreed. I was initially disappointed about no co-op/multiplayer, but once I started reading and understanding the details surrounding this game, this IP, etc., I quickly replaced my disappointment with sheer excitement

Also the battle mechanics for this game do not translate to co-op. You don't HAVE to but here is a pause system built into combat so you can plan what to do. It would get very aggravating if the mage you were playing with paused the game every few seconds to line up his spells right.

I was disappointed in the loss of multiplayer too, but DA should be a great game despite its loss. It would've been nice to have a new platform for online campaigns and PWs that wasn't as unwieldy as NWN2, but it wasn't meant to be I guess.

@boomwav

i see what your saying, I didn't quite realize how much they actually put behind their NPCs but if thats whats making this game so great thats awesome! quite excited to hear theres a method to bioware's madness haha.

I wish they implemented the multiplayer like in NWN, but it is understandable that they kept it single player. Playing through a story as a random partner to the hero really isn't as fun as it sounds, especially in an rpg setting. And after all, you don't need other people to enjoy yourself.

I loved playing the previous Bioware RPGs in co-op mode, but I can live with single-player only. I'm sure the character interactions will make up for not having friends alongside me, and in a way this is all the more reason for me to buy the next Dragon Age game, the one that does support co-op, right...?

We can hope. Maybe once everyone is used to their IP they'll feel more amiable to multiplayer. On that note, they should make an arena module so people can use their characters and battle each other. I don't know how balanced it would be (probably not very well, but neither is NWN), but it might be fun.

I know I'll miss co-op. I can understand how it doesn't necessarily fit (especially with the origins being what they are) but I always love to try out a new combat system with friends.

It really is posts like these that make me worry about the future of gaming. Today almost everything must have multiplayer or it wont get rated as high. Even some of the current reviews make note that it is a shame that there is no multiplayer (online or otherwise). A game does not need multiplayer to be good. Games like DA:O, Dead Space, Mass Effect, and many RPGs strive to make a beautiful story, adult themed or not, and having multiplayer takes away from that. Not only in time to create an extra mode but also in your story telling ability.

Now don't get me wrong, I enjoy games with multiplayer and love hanging out with my friends and playing. From Halo, to Tales of Symphonia, to Diablo II. But I knew what this game was going to be when I first heard of it and am happy that it stayed its single player focus. And if I want some multiplayer action with my friends I will go back and play any of the other aforementioned titles.

That is exactly how I feel.  Not everything needs a crappy online feature.  Half the games that have it are horrid anyway.

I'll play this game mainly in single player for all the NPC interaction etc... but i understand where you're coming from. A way to play co-op would be nice, i probably wouldnt use it, mind.

A way to play co-op on user content would be great too, as i'm sure people will be making some pretty tough scenarios and dungeons to play through.

Who says that multiplayer has to be a crappy online feature?

I played BG 1 & 2 and NWN 1 & 2 as co-operative multiplayer games over a LAN. That means discussing and planning with my friends (who, mainly, had experience in pencil/paper roleplaying), working our way through the conversations and combat as a team, and sharing the loot. Nowadays you don't even need a LAN for this - just a decent internet connection, TeamSpeak or equivalent, and some like-minded individuals. There's no reason why you can't have as good an experience, or better, playing the main campaign co-op as you can playing it as singleplayer.

Worried??? A multiplayer like with NWN mod servers would increase replayability and actually give you the chance to (role)play with other players/friends. Interact with all those characters we now only see uploaded.
I had more fun and spent more time on such server worlds then with the NwN campaign.

It would be epic.

So i support these calls. A game can be great, but in certain cases, multiplayer just adds so much. Especially with a D&D based game like this. Hell i would even pay a small fee for multiplayer.

Or am i mistaken and are such servers and toolset gonna happen?

I like it's single player, But i do believe that Bioware are waiting to see just how big a success this game is, And if it's a good clean hit they will add the ability to create your own servers NWN style.

Right now i think they are just waiting a seeing whats happening.

I'm not saying that there are no arguments in favour of playing the campaign in single-player mode. I am saying that there are also arguments in favour of playing it in co-op mode. Further, I'm saying that the latter set of advantages may actually outweigh the former - after all, friends can be more interesting than scripted characters. Having read the above posts again, it seems that other people feel likewise.

Playing Co-op would destroy any sense of story. It'd be you and a friend going around killing stuff. Not to mention they'd have to record twice as much dialogue and potentially change the entire nature of the game to accomodate a second player. You know what game tried to put in co-op? Fable. They failed miserably. And not just because of the control problems.

[/quote]Yes, I've played Fable II co-op, and I agree that it was not good at all. You know what other games had co-op?

Baldur's Gate
Baldur's Gate 2
Neverwinter Nights

I think these examples are rather more relevant. Have you played them co-op?

DA:O has ten times as much dialogue as any of the games you listed. This game is far more NPC-centric than any of those games were. You're going to constantly be engaged in dialogue. If you played the campaigns co-op for BG or NWN, that second player doesn't get ANY dialogue with NPCs. It's just a ghost character who walks along with you killing stuff.

I have played and hosted several servers for NWN. But there is a difference between multiplayer servers and co-op.
I'd be fine with multiplayer in DA, outside of the main campaign.

Then backstab his character and incinerate his corpse?
