I've seen recommendations for either one, and I'm curious what people think.  Is there a preference for one versus the other?  Does it matter what difficulty you're on?  Any thoughts or suggestions?

I pick Warp Ammo, usually because Infiltrators have a lot of extra points and Disruptor ammo fill's Warp ammo's weaknesses out well. (I usually put disruptor on my SMG and Warp on everything else)

It's also ideal for collector's, which is when you usually need the damage buffs the most.

I tried out AP ammo on the collector ship mission when I picked up the Widow. Warp Ammo would have worked better there. I switched back and haven't touched AP since. I've just finished IFF mission with Thane and Grunt on insanity last night. Scion goes down in 4 shots with Widow + Warp Ammo + Cloak, never even got close to me.

I'd say Warp ammo for much of the game, but AP for the collector base. AP isn't the best for collectors, but it will help with the Scions, Harbinger, and the last boss.

I've said this and it has been said on many posts, but I'll say it again; Warp ammo is the jack of all trades ammo.  Unlike all the other ammo types, warp ammo affects DIRECTLY health, armor, and barriers.  Also, there is a strong likelihood that either you or someone in your party has something to deal with shields, so you're set.  Although it only does 50% damage, it inflicts that damage to 3 different areas at once, also doubled if the target is affected by biotics such as, pull, reave, singularity and warp.  Also, there's a little glitch in the game where warp actually does a nice bit of damage to shields, which it shouldn't.

Anyways, excuse my rant.

Well, it's a necro'd thread, but whatever, I'll run with it...

I believe warp ammo is the critical element needed for an Infiltrator to kill a Collector with a single headshot while on Insanity difficulty. There's a few other things you need, certain powers need to be evolved in a certain way and some armor pieces as well. And the Widow. But get it all together, and headshots are not beyond your Infiltrator's grasp.

Still, I wouldn't take a biotic power for a nonbiotic class.

According to the Wiki, it's just a power, not a biotic power.

According to the Bioware developers on our own forum, all ammo powers are in their own category and don't receive tech or biotic upgrade bonuses. But I'm taking that as gameplay mechanics, warp ammo is a biotic ammo. :P

While AP offers larger damage percentage....I've always gone with Warp because it is useful against more defense types.

Also it does double damage against enemies hit by a biotic. So have someone Pull the enemy and it'll die quickly.

Then it doesn't matter if your a biotic or not then. So your earlier statement is invalid. :D

The description says something about the user infusing their ammo with biotic power, doesn't it? So it only makes sense with biotic classes, in that case.

Warp ammo is better, cause its purple, and purple is classier.

also i believe i read somewhere that +x% upgrades to 'power damage' from amplifier plates and passive skills ALSO apply to ammo damages. I'm just not sure whether it stacks directly with the +% damage to the ammo itself.

so if you had warp ammo and amplifier plates, would it be:

+50% and +15% for a total of +65%

or would it be +50% and then + (.15 x .5 = .075) or 7.5% for a total of 57.5%

I say Warp Ammo is the most versatile ammo you can get. Gives you a solid 50% damage against anything. Compare that to the 60% for Disruptor Ammo (Shields only) / Inferno Ammo (Armor/Health only) and the 70% for AP Ammo (Again only Armor & Health) you waste only 10%+the bonus effects or 20% damage respectively.

What makes this Ammo Power really helpful is the fact you don't need any other ammo power anymore and have plenty of points to spent on other powers that might come useful (Improved AI Hacking rocks Disrupot Ammo against synthetics (especially Geth) doubletimes!).

The sniperrifle, especially the Widow, is already a heavy hitter against armor, and given that only few enemies come with Armor only that would need the Inferno Buff are krogans or Elite Mercs of all three factions, makes the more versatile Warp Ammo better in practical use. Especially when it comes to the Collectors, Disruptor and Inferno Ammo have little use and Warp Ammo really shines here.

Warp ammo is your friend, especially if you're main character is lacking in Warp.

Neither when upgraded the Widow is powerful enough already to 1 shot mooks bonus ammo power is not needed them points can be better spent else where like Dominate or something.

The Widow won't one-shot some of the more difficult enemies on Insanity difficulty by itself, but with the right armor and an ammo boost, you can achieve it. Though it does one-shot some of the lesser enemies.

For a Sentinal whose only weakness is lack of an ammo power, Warp Ammo is perfect.
