To be honest, I wish they would have LET you do it, and then just show you blowing up because you jump into the middle of a freaking black hole.

They probably didn't do it because they wanted to hide the (very pretty) area until the final mission.

The thing is, the galactic core is the Opening Menu!

Bioware FAIL.

Not really since you don't know its the galactic core until you actually get there. I thought it was a nice touch showing us the endgame area but leaving us oblivious to what was waiting on the other side of the Omega 4 relay.

I was pretty sure that's what was past the omega 4 relay when I first saw it. That black hole was freaking HUGE. I played too much Spore, so when I saw the core I yelled THE COLLECTORS ARE THE GROX!

I could imagine the "Game over" screen would be TIM facepalming and crying.

He does that when you sleep with Morinth. Shepard doomed the galaxy in his desire to get off.

TIM

Shepard: OM4 RELAY GO NOW!!! HURRY!!!

Shepard: GO! BEFORE IT BLOWS UP! HURRY!!!

Joker: What's blowing up!?

Shepard: GAAH!HH! (Attacks galaxy map and sends the normandy through the relay)

Hehe, letting us enter the Omega 4 from start would have shown us the true meaning of the FTL drive.

Haha, I would have loved this option. It's worth it just to see TIM's facepalm.

Somebody already invoked his name earlier in the thread, but I just had to do this:

Miranda: Okay, guys, these Collectors have given us a lot of trouble in the past. Does anybody need anything off these guys or can we bypass them?

TIM: Uh, I think we need the kidnapped humans off these guys.

Miranda: Dammit. Ok, here's what we'll do. We'll run around the galaxy, gathering up a bunch of allies to help us fight against the Collectors. Those allies will give us some ideas for ship upgrades, just to make sure we don't get totally toasted on the way there. Oh, and we'll scan twenty or so planets for resources, so we can upgrade our weapons and armor, take the Collectors down quicker. If we have time, we might want to do a personal mission for each crew member, get their morale up. Oh, and we'll need an IFF to get through the Omega 4 relay safely, or we'll probably get fried before we even make it through the relay. If we have time, we might want to do some side missions too, for the experience. What do you think, Jacob? Can you give me a number crunch real quick?

Jacob: Uhh, yeah, gimme a sec. I'm coming up with thirty-two point three three, uh, repeating of course, percentage of survival. Mordin even less.

Mordin: Hey!

Miranda: Well, that's a lot better than the other ships that have gone through the Omega 4 relay. Uhh, alright, you think we're ready guys?

Shepard: *steps up to the Galaxy map, points to the Omega 4 relay* Alright, chums, let's do this. LEEEEEERROOOOOOOOY SHEEEEEEPPPPPAAAAAARRRRRRD!

Miranda: Oh, my God, he just sent us in. Shepard, don't...

*BOOM*

Shepard: *floating in space in the ruins of Normandy SR-2* At least... *gasp* I have chicken.

Ah man, that would have been even more entertaining than Shepard dying cause he let Morinth convince him to do the deed with her!

The expression on TIM's face when he heard the news would have challenged Joker's response to "i enjoy the sight of humans on their knees" for the title of greatest in-game expression!

Joker gets all the good facial expressions.  That one's amusing, but the one at the start of Legion's loyalty mission is just priceless.

Uhhh, that'd be the Illusive Man's fault there. He should've reduced Sheppard's sex drive while on the operating table. He already knew Sheppard is the Captain Kirk of the Mass Effect universe, ready to sleep with any and all female aliens! Posted Image Besides, who can refuse the tantalizing offer of ultimate so-good-it'll-kill-you pleasure!

I just realized, the game over screen could have been the "mission accomplished" screen, but instead of TIM reclining while smoking his cigarette and watching that star in the backround, he could be turned around with his head in his hands, like he's sobbing, and it plays the same music, but just says "epic mission failure".
