Just about to start a new game on insane, any idea if I sould start with a new character for a new class or are the bonuses from the first soldier playthrough needed?

it's harder if you import the lvl 30. since you only keep weapons but lose all upgrades. while the enemies all have full upgrades. if you start a new character or import you still get long service medal bonus and me1 import bonus, the enemies will also scale to your level

After you beat the game all new games (imported characters, or new characters) get to select one bonus power from all of the Loyalty Upgrades that you have unlocked and you get 50k of each material.

As far as starting Insanity at lvl 30, well it has its pros and cons. Pro is that you already have all your upgraded powers, con is you are going to be fighting max lvl enemies the whole time.

I started Insanity with a level 30 Vanguard and it was very hard not a great class for Insanity imo.

I then started a new character Infiltrator and and so far easy.

I thought Vanguard was great but Infiltrator just kicks A#s !!

I started as a Sentinel and really prepared for what I was doing and still got worked. And we've all heard about how great a sensie is in ME2. I don't think any class can prepare well at lvl a 30 Insanity game.

Imported a level 30 Soldier to Insanity, and had no issues at all. Adrenaline Rush is sort of OP, although :3

I'm currently going through my 2nd playthrough on Insanity with my level 30 soldier, shame the upgrades aren't kept. But it is still very challenging.

Soldier 30 reimport for insanity is tough business. classes that rely more on Biotics/Techs are a bit easier, still the Upgrades (Damage, Accurary, Shield penetration and most of all: DMG Reduction) are sorely missed. New Game+ is alot harder then just a new game.

I think I'll re-import my lvl 60 ME1 character and start as an infiltrator.

Thanks for the advice :)

I imported a level 30 Sentinel and had no problems at all playing Insanity.  The only trouble I ever had was against those Praetorians.

I just got done beating new game + on insanity as a level 30 soldier import. The beginning was very hard, especially the Garrus recruitment mission, but after a while it only became slightly more difficult than normal difficulty (after getting the upgrades).

Doing a lvl 30 import of a character on insanity, It is really, really hard.

But it is kinda awesome to take down everything when it's at their biggest and baddest.

I don't think you can use reverent or whatever weapon you had in previous save but in the first mission.

My NG+ Insanity/Soldier plays was really tough going in the beginning. Horizon, Garrus recruit were very hard. It wasn't until 3/4 of the way complete was I able to start collecting med-gel and complete some missions or many mission segments with being killed somewhere. Then the final fight with the reaper was also tough, as was the Collector ship flying pads. I'm glad I did not give up and start a new Insanity run with a ME1 import. I played a good part of the 2nd half of the game with Miranda/Morinth for missions with mostly organics, Tali/Morinth for organic/tech mix and Tali/Miranda for missions with mostly techs. I think I discovered all of the placed Shepard can hide, as well as when you can't hide have just have to bite the bullet, like near the beginning of Jack's recruit mission. I learned how to keep going even when my squad got wasted and I had no med-gel to bring 'em back, or decided to save the med-gel and just go it alone. In this regard, Heavy Reave 4 was a great power for the Soldier class, as it even works on mechs once the shields are down.

I play insane right now with a soldier. Import from ME1 but fresh game not new game+

I played the game first on veteran, and it's really harder, but not impossible. And funny that going back to veteran seems sooo easymode now (for doing videos and screenshotsa and different dialog options etc. )

I found the end fight with the reaper a bit difficult with my level 30 import soldier, but I learned if you kill off the side collectors and take their ammo you can use your sniper rifle (widow in my case) to great effect on the reaper if it's fully upgraded. The reaper hit me once with one of those overload fireballs but he never did any health damage on me. Still, the fight must have taken 6-7 minutes.

And yeah haha, now that I beat the game on insanity I'm going back through as a vanguard on casual. I don't even stop to fight guys, I just fly through them and murder them.

I didn't realize the enemies scaled up. I did a NG+ with my 27 soldier and the mechs were just stomping me.

I'll have to do a fresh insanity run.

Indeed, the start of the game as a NG+ on insanity is very disturbing
