Ok I was very sceptic when they said they removed elevator scenes. They didn't want to tell us why. And now we know.........They replaced it with a lame loading screen! I felt it broke the imersion complytly. It didnt feel like the Cidedel was conected but instead felt like an appartment building. Plus the loading screens are longer than elevator ride. Dont get me wrong ME2 is a great game but seriously bioware dropped the ball on this issue...Posted Image

Ha Ha. No. I have a better suggestion. They can work on improving loading times between areas.

10 second and less loading screen > 20 second + elevator

Why does it have to be one thing or the other? Bioware could have made the elevators go faster but kept the banter and the galactic news.

Exactly!!!

People on this forum don't get that there is a happy medium.

Its either: A. the way ME1 did it  or B. The way ME2 did it

Funny stuff.

Argh i completely agree immersion in this game so far = fail.

mission complete screens loading screens at every turn, being teleported back to the normandy, magically "leaving" after finishing an area, citadel, omega and illium feel like big rooms, not hubs or interconnected areas.

Was it really that hard to imagine a better solution than in ME1 without removing elevators completely?

I miss the elevator rides for 2 reasons

1) I loved the character conversations because it made the characters feel more alive

2) It didn't break up the flow of the game as much as loading screens

Now I know there are those that think the new system is better and i can understand that, so I would like to see a DLC for it, that way you can choose whether or not you have the elevator scenes or not

No thanks. They can improve character banter in other ways.

Elevators are better than loading screens as long as loading times do not suffer (too much).

There are few areas where even slow moving elevators are better option (Dantius Towers).

I loved that pointless elevator muzak in ME1. I always take as many elevator rides in the Citadel as possible. BTW, "Load Limit Reached" in Dragon Age makes me laugh every time i read it :D

Not really. I have a pretty nice system with next to no loading times (2-3 seconds at most). That's nowhere near enough to add good banter. Really they just need to add more banter points in the game with a wider selection of characters.

On my system loading takes about 1-3 seconds so I guess a conversation can't be done in 3 seconds. As for the people complaining, if you want to hear the news you just have to click on the numerous consoles around Omega/Citadel/Illium.

It's better this way,you can still hear the news but it doesn't force you to wait.

Yeah, that's the problem. The elevators were designed for the XBox where they knew roughly what load time was necessary so they could have the ride take about that long and fill it with conversation. On the PC, it was just wasted time. Yeah the convos and news updates were nice flavor, but they could do that how they did it in Dragon Age just while you're walking around. And there are news kiosks if I want that.

The loading screens aren't all that bad anyway if you actually watch. I think it's meant to look like one of the tactical displays on the Normandy and it shows things like the shuttle going up or down from a planet or one of those taxis going across Illium, for example. So you have a sense of time passing while you're riding a shuttle or something. Not all that jarring in my book. I mean if you aren't used to loading screens by now you haven't been gaming for very long. It's nice when they can do seamless now but even that can run into trouble if you move too fast. Happened to me all the time in ME1.

Well on Omega I can barely hear what the newsguy is saying with the loud club music all over the place.

What he said.

One thing I thought BioWare did very well in terms of characterization and immersion was the randon conversations between squad members in DA:O.  That should've been implemented in ME2.  Besides that one between Garrus and Tali.

It doesn't really work that way :P  Elevators = a fixed "load time" no matter how fast the game actually loads.  This is why the elevators sucked in ME1.  You can't "make it faster" without having 2 second conversations and likely a ton of "dead air" if the convo ends before the load does.

What Bioware did was fine.  Load times are very short in ME2.
