I honestly side with Miranda because I don't approve of throwing chairs at someone in an argument.

The Tali/Legion thing is tricky, but I side with Tali because I honestly don't care for the Geth so much.

Do you have the data from the 2.0 version? Even if you don't plan to analyze it much, it would still be interesting to see the results (not sure if I missed it somewhere, this forum moves too fast).

I do. Look here.

I don't work with spreadsheets that much is there anyway to have the program add up the total results or calculate an average for you?

On a side note this is really great data you're collecting.  You should really send some of it to Bioware because I don't think they've done any surveys with such a large sample group.   Granted I'm sure that the fact that people can vote more than once taints the results a little; but there's no reason to conclude that a Liara fan would be more likely to break the one vote rule than a Miranda fan, so it probably cancels itself out for the most part.

Absolutely. It's called SPSS. If you are a university student like me, you might be able to get a free copy.

I download this spreadsheet as an .xls, and I copy and paste into SPSS. After a few mouse clicks, I have the mean, median, standard deviation, and variance for those values. Easy.

Thanks, I am a student and UNC has a pretty good collection of free software so I'd wager they'll probably have a copy.

its odd.

i really disliked Miranda's character in the game. besides her loyalty mission with her sister, she rubbed me wrong in all sorts of ways.

at the same time, this is an indication of just how good a character she was from a storytelling point of view, seeing as she could make me dislike her so much.

so, I guess my personal opinion would be a low score, but from a storytelling viewpoint she scores highly for me.... anyone else fell this way about some characters?

I'm required to answer which romance is the best? I've only finished two in the series and didn't like either, one bit.

This issue came up in 2.0 I believe.

I think it's really an issue for a character like Morinth, she's pretty well-written and presented for what she is, which is a heartless, soul-sucking predator.

There are also free software packages open to the general public.  One example that I personally like is [R] -- although the learning curve is a pain.  Here is a list of some additional programs:

Edit: There is also another program called PSPP but I have not used it.  Its suppose to be a free alternative to SPSS.

That came up when people were discussing the last survey, but since it was not specified in the instructions, I took it to mean "how much do you, personally, like the characters". It's probably more reliable as a subjective opinion anyway; since we don't really have a consensus on what constitutes a good character, going that route means people would be voting from different criteria anyway, making objectivity kind of moot.

We still are suffering from the issue of double posting.

Hmm. Seems like the response rate is a little lower this time around. We might not get the sample size 1000+ like we did last time.

I'll let this run for a few days.

Keep up the good work. If you do another you may want to factor in age (<18 High school, 18-24ish college, 24+ adult) or something along those lines.

I ran some numbers using the first 407 answers from this quiz.

The end result is Tali is rated #1, being 54.2% more popular than the runner up #2 Garrus. (22.35% vs 14.49%). Quite different numbers than what was happening with the previous poll. The least Liked is Jacob with absolutely no one voting him as their favorite. I didn't count the two extras or the gay guy from ME1.

Tali    22.3 %
Garrus    14.4 %
Wrex    12.0 %
Miranda    10.5 %
Mordin    8.3 %
Ashley    7.6 %
Liara    7.1 %
Thane    2.7 %
Legion    3.9 %
Samara    1.7 %
Jacob    0 %

On the most hated side we have Jacob at #1, 40% more hated than the runner up #2 Liara (w00t?).

Legion    0.2 %
Wrex    0.2 %
Mordin    0.7 %
Garrus    0.9 %
Samara    0.9 %
Thane    1.4 %
Miranda    2.9 %
Tali    4.6 %
Ashley    6.1 %
Liara    7.8 %
Jacob    11.0 %

When we subtract the lovers from the haters, Tali is left as #1, loved 31% more than the runner up #2 Garrus.

Tali        17.69%
Garrus        13.51%
Wrex        11.79%
Miranda        7.62%
Mordin        7.62%
Legion        3.69%
Ashley        1.47%
Thane        1.23%
Samara        0.73%
Liara        -0.74%
Jacob        -11.06%

The absolute ranking order provides less information than rating each character individually - a person may like or even give the same score to multiple characters, but best/worst only allows you to pick one. So while, say, Mordin is generally well-liked by everyone (from the previous polls), fewer people would pick him as the absolute favorite, accounting for this difference. If you tallied the numbers from the scores for each character I expect they would be more in line with the previous surveys.

Well, the thing with double-posting is, if someone was (for example) spamming straight 1s for everyone else and 10s for their favorite character again and again, you could catch it real easily in the data.(It would be real easy to spot.)

Also, the time stamps make it fairly esy to see if someone is double posting the same thing.

dude this is a Tali survey because no one but Tali voters voted. It's like this survey was only advertised in the Tali thread. Half of the Ashley/Liara/Kaiden people didn't even vote because they didn't know it was live. But what is funny, is that dude thinks this thing means anything. If anything it only solidifies what you can see if you just look on page one of the ME2 spoilers forum. Somehow the outsiders need to take this survey, then you'll get way more accurate numbers.

trust me, that is what the Tali fans did, just as they did it in the last one and the first one. The survey results are a joke at best for most characters.

For the record you will not see them doing it back to back, If anyone has a brain, you wait, then do it again, and then wait again. That is consistent with the way it was done last time.

So before all the Tali fans get excited, just realize it is basically like placing this survey in the Tali thread and just having them vote. You guys are funny! LOL!

Well...it's on GoogleDocs. There's no reason you can't link it (say) the Escapist, or IGN, or other gaming sites.

Only if you're stupid, if I was going to double post, i haven't might I add, but i if I were, I wouldn't post identical values, you'd have to be a complete idiot and I wouldn't do it over and over, I go do something else and comeback later, you could do that a few times throughout the day and no-one would be any the wiser.

I dunno maybe it's because I'm a teacher but I think it'd be a really easy system to fool, if I was so inclined.

might do just that. But at this point, I no longer care, as I see the second one being more accurate as it had a good vote count. It clearly showed some things that mimic wider views.
