trust me, that is what the Tali fans did, just as they did it in the last one and the first one. The survey results are a joke at best for most characters.

For the record you will not see them doing it back to back, If anyone has a brain, you wait, then do it again, and then wait again. That is consistent with the way it was done last time.

So before all the Tali fans get excited, just realize it is basically like placing this survey in the Tali thread and just having them vote. You guys are funny! LOL!

Honestly I'm finding you funnier. Everyone else seems to understand its just a fun survey. Its not a conspiracy by 'Tali Fans' just because you aren't seeing the results you like.

It is what it is. Enjoy it or don't.

Well, the thing with double-posting is, if someone was (for example) spamming straight 1s for everyone else and 10s for their favorite character again and again, you could catch it real easily in the data.(It would be real easy to spot.)

Also, the time stamps make it fairly esy to see if someone is double posting the same thing.

Only if you're stupid, if I was going to double post, i haven't might I add, but i if I were, I wouldn't post identical values, you'd have to be a complete idiot and I wouldn't do it over and over, I go do something else and comeback later, you could do that a few times throughout the day and no-one would be any the wiser.

I dunno maybe it's because I'm a teacher but I think it'd be a really easy system to fool, if I was so inclined.

You're right, of course. It does, however, make things less extreme. And it seems like a lot of effort to fool a poll.

(And you know, no one's bothered to calculate the 1-10 data yet, which is what I assume more people care about.)

And someone else can crunch the numbers, but Mordin seemed to have a crushing victory in "Most Humorous." Huzzah.

Thanks for seeing truth. As a person who put together a final result sheet on the last survey I studied the results and caught a million Tali fans putting 10's for Tali (which is perfectly fine) and 1's for almost every other LI and in particular Liara. It was actually rather funny and signified a lot of what age group fans of a particular character might be. (disclaimer: I never said "all" of said characters fans, so adults please don't take offense)

I like to be funny actually, I'm glad you found me funny. Anyway, if anyone is having fun, it is me. If you for a second think I am taking this seriously, you must be having too much fun.

I'm not actually looking for particular results since you seem to think I am . I am looking for accuracy and it just so happens that I am not wet behind the ears to believe that Tali is everyones favorite, some of her fans do, but not me.

It indeed is what it is, and I take it as my personal responsibility to put down false truths. and yes, I think I will enjoy. ;)

This.

Deltaboy, I appreciate your zeal, but really, this was designed primarily out of personal curiosity and personal desire to put people's feelings of certain characters to numbers.

Truth be told I'm not actually that bothered, I have more of a gripe about the reliance of statistics to prove points when they are often (I'm refraining from the use of always) flawed.  I think it would be interesting to see the 1-10 data and also to split the information based on male/female gamers but not for a purpose, because I'm curious.

And I know who I like, it's not gonna change because other people have a different opinion.

My post really was just to illustrate that the data is unreliable (science teacher) and people should bare that in mind before they make any sweeping statements or try and bash other people over the head with it Image IPB

This is what I've been thinking all along. If you love character x, you vote the competition much lower just because you want your side to win.

Honestly, the post-based way of doing the first survey was great. Though it was a lot more time-consuming, it offered much less of a chance for people to cheat the survey. And I guarantee that out of the many people that have voted in the survey, there have been a group of people that have likely gone in and retaken it every few minutes, likely changing a few of their answers up such as gender.

I agree, but wait until you have to punch in over 1,000 values into SPSS.

And additionally, going on the coefficient of variation, it seems that the act of people voting more than once only has had a limited effect on the means (though standard deviations are way up).

I have:

ME1:

Wrex - 8.49
Garrus - 7.91
Tali - 7.08
Liara - 6.68
Ashley - 6.51
Kaiden - 5.17

ME2

Mordin - 8.78
Garrus - 8.46
Wrex - 8.45
Legion - 8.22
Tali - 7.91
Miranda - 7.07
Thane - 6.90
Grunt - 6.81
Samara - 6.64
Liara - 6.19
Jack - 6.13
Ashley - 6.01
Zaeed - 5.22
Jacob - 5.12
Kaiden - 4.86
Morinth - 4.28

So according to this, at best Tali is middle of the road. Not to bash Tali, but that is a more accurate rate of a favored character. Now if I was gonna be a fanboy I'd be pissing and moaning about Liara, but in the survey it is clear her hate comes from her cameo and not her character.

So...I think I made the point in the other thread, but...

The results of the "Favorite character" poll measure the number of people who like that character more then anyone else.

The 1-10 poll measures the overall feeling of the community towards a particular character.

So a character who rated highly on the "Favorite character" poll, but much lower on the 1-10 poll, has a bunch of devoted followers, but isn't as popular among all ME gamers.

On the flip side, everyone likes Mordin, so he's the most well-liked in the community...but hardly anyone likes Mordin THE MOST. Which is why there's no Mordin thread, the Mordin fan club's not very big, etc.

I just punched in the first 500 values into SPSS. Because it is tedious to type, I wil include statistics on certain characters only:

Ashley
Mean: 6.01
Std. Deviation: 2.246
Median: 6

Kaidan
Mean: 4.86
Std. Deviation: 2.662
Median: 5

Wrex
Mean: 8.46
Std. Deviation: 1.542
Median: 9

Garrus

Mean: 8.46
Std. Deviation: 1.794
Median: 9

Tali

Mean: 7.92
Std. Deviation: 2.387
Median: 9

Liara

Mean: 6.19
Std. Deviation: 2.450
Median: 6.5

Miranda

Mean: 7.08
Std. Deviation: 2.082
Median: 7

Jacob

Mean: 5.12
Std. Deviation: 2.246
Median: 5

Mordin
Mean: 8.79
Std. Deviation: 1.482
Median: 9

Legion
Mean: 8.28
Std. Deviation: 1.581
Median: 9

The numbers are a lot more consistent with that of the first survey. I doubt the double-voting is having much effect.

But you see the problem with that, is you have the majority of Tali fans voting, so yes it indeed play a significant role. You also might have forgotten to take in to account that not everyone will put a 1 all the time in hopes of remaining undetected as a fanboy. That is just common sense, although most fanboys lack this. I call shananigans.

So in conclusion, people know how to get by deviation scores or should I say manipulate them.

Ah, there's the cameo effect.

Also, one of Ashley/Kaidan will always be dead in everyone's game, so it would probably affect player opinion on some level even if they were full squadmates (even if you have multiple saves to see their different content). It would be interesting to see if this occurs in ME3 if they or other potentially dead ME2 characters are brought back for squadmate roles. After all, it's hard to get to like a character better if they don't exist in your game.
