Can you do some type of scrolling news ticker, message board thing? I'm being as vague as possible on purpose.

Are ya talking about Dynamic Text? The Userbar Designer (Link in 1st Post of this Thread, i'm lazy.) has such features, but I never learned how to use them.

I guess I'm envisioning a 'message board' covered in 'diodes' that could have scrolling messages go across it. I think it would be pretty cool, but probably a bit too complicated.

Best bet would be to use Html or java script in the bb code to do this

I just quickly sketched this up in Paint so I could be a little bit more clear on what I'm describing:

Image IPB

Something along the lines of this image, except with text scrolling to the left.
(Here, it's showing the first part of 'NON-AFFILIATED FACTION')

Is there anyway I could do some sort of 'flip book'? Like, if I manually drew each image and then

sewed them together as an animation? I really have no idea how else to do this...

What will the width and height settings need to be for a signature?

That's looking pretty good. I'd still like to get the true 'news ticker look', though. Maybe if I made a really 'long' image and had it scroll by in such a way that the 'diodes' always appear to remain stationary? Would that work?

I'm starting to think that with a little bit of tweaking, this could definitely work .

Should I make a longer test image?

I think I have a solution. What if the scrolling animation was over-lain on top of a stationary image of gray 'diodes', and the only part that actually scrolled by were the lit up 'diodes' of the letters? Would that be possible?

With my tests it would appear as if the forum wont let you have a background image

I guess I'll try it as a gif, then. What's a good site to host it on?

Here's the full image, anyways, much shrunken:

Edit: I think I'm going make it a full-size gif, but it'll probably take a week or more to get it looking good.

As everyone's noticed, i've practiced Animated GIFs. It sounds like this is what you'll need. For this task, I think what ya wanna do is to make a Master Template, which will be a Pic with your Background, (your choice of colored or Transparent) your 'lights' (I assume you're wanting the lights to look like LEDs?) in a dim coloring that'll look like an 'Off' setting. Save this 'Master Template'.

Next, you'll wanna load copies of the Master Template into Paint.Net replace the appropriate 'Off' setting 'Lights' with 'On' setting 'Lights' by recoloring the appropriate 'Lights' into a bright colored equivalent of the dim color. When done, save this as a New File via 'Save As...', name it something memory-aiding, like perhaps 'Scroll GIF Frame001' or such. (Buggers on JPG or JPEG, seriously consider saving as PNG.)

Open up another Copy of the Master Template, (Gotta love Paint.NET's Tabs! ^_^) color in the 'dots' for your Message again, but this time, do so a bit off to the side of the 1st one. As an example, if you colored in the 'dots' the very left-most dots filled in for the message were the dots 10 columns from the left-most one, make the left-most column 'lit dots' the ones 15 columns from the left-most one, recolor the rest of the dots to message. 'Save As...' this one, ('Scroll GIF Frame002') rinse repeat this until you have a 'Frame' for every desired message position on your future Pic. Make sure you don't make a duplicate Pic 'Frame' of the very 1st 'Frame' of your work, or when it plays in the final GIF, it would cause those twins to play one after the other, present the illusion of that 'Frame' hanging around for 2x longer then the other 'Frames' break up the smoothness of the imitation scrolling.

When ya have all of the 'Frames' done from Paint.Net, open up GIMP, set your 1st Frame-Pic into it. (I recommend doing this via Dragging it from your Save File, likely your 'My Pictures' Folder, hovering it over your GIMP Taskbar Button, hold a moment it'll make the GIMP Program 'Maximize' front center, then finish dragging your Pic into it's work window release to Drop it in.) When ya stick Pics into GIMP this way, it automatically sticks the Pic into it's own Layer. This is want you want. Each Frame of an Animated GIF-to-be has to be on it's own Layer. Anyway, drag-n-drop each 'Frame' of your work into GIMP in the desired Animation Sequence. (ie Frame 1 = Layer 1, Frame 2 = Layer 2, etc.) When done, go to the top menu of GIMP click Filter - Animation - Playback. This'll give ya a Preview Window for Animation for what ya currently got. 'Play' this Preview attempt to determine if your work is coming along, if it's done, or needs tweaking. Let's assume it's done. Now File - Save As... in the next window, Give this Final File it's name, at the end of the name add the extension .GIF in lowercase letters. (I have no idea if File Extensions even care about Capitalizations or not, but lowercase letters are lazier typing. ;)) GIMP should now give ya a new Window asking if ya wanna save this File with the Layers 'Flattened' or 'Save as Animation', you want 'Save as Animation'. In the lower area, it'll ask ya if ya wanna save 'Indexed' or some other thing. Ya want 'Indexed'. (Rough descriotion, but my rl memory's choking now. :pinched:) When done with this Window, the Window will go away give ya a new Window, this one's for tweaking some aspects of your GIF. Especially relevant is an option to set what Speed to play any Frame that doesn't have a Animation Speed specified. For your work, consider trying '100 ms'. Below this, there's a checkbox for if ya wanna use the afore-mentioned Animation Speed for all Frames, clicking this box on is the lazy way to make all Frames use 1 Speed, very handy! :) Especially for many-Frame GIFs! :D After ya finish with this Window, it'll Save your work as an Animated GIF, it's done!

It's always worth it to be better safe then sorry to not yet close your GIMP or it's work just yet, go to your new Save File, Open it in the Windows Picture Fax Viewer via either Right-Click - Preview, or Right-Click - Open With - Windows Picture and Fax Viewer, see if your new Animated GIF came out right & looks good. If it doesn't, then it's a good thing ya haven't kicked your work outta GIMP, eh? Ya can modify & resave again now. If it does look finished, Upload it to a Web Pic-Hosting Site, then show it off here! :o

Hope I helped. & hope I didn't sound too ranty. :P

Pink sucks, Animated GIFs don't. :P (Shamelessly biased opinion.)
