Any tips on how to beat this as a Soldier on Insanity? I'm getting my ass handed to me because I can't find a defensible spot to hunker down without being over-run by the Husks, and running around in circles doesn't work because of the two Scion's that are wandering the area.

Do you have anyone with incinerate or warp to take the armor off the Husks? Preferably someone with the AoE incinerate. That way you can mow down the husks with an assault rifle while avoiding the scions. That's about the only thing i can think of cause there aren't too many husks on Horizon but there are enough to annoy.

Not too many Husks?! What the hell are you smoking?! There's a ton of them around that gun at the spaceport you have to defend at the end of the damn mission!
And my party is Miranda and Grunt. I haven't had any problems for the majority of the mission because there's always been a safe spot where I could concentrate on taking out the Husks while staying out of sight of any other enemies. Unfortunately, there's no such place in the Spaceport, especially since the Scion's have that Shockwave attack that goes through walls and stops you from regenerating for something like a full minute. I either get hit by a Shockwave that I can't see coming because I'm trying to kill the Husks, or I get Melee'd to death by the Husks because I'm trying to kill the Scion's. In other words, fscked if I do, fscked if I don't, and fscked anyway just to make sure.

I assume you're talking about the place where you talk to [ME1 survivor] right at the end of the mission and get ****ed at for joining Cerberus?
There is a little spot right on the opposite side of that area from where you enter... I don't know how useful it is on Insanity, haven't played that far yet, but it saved my seating on Hardcore. Had to skip over the cover very often to keep from being overwhelmed, but it worked well enough for long enough to take the Husks down and let me snip away at the Scions.

I'm past the first portion, and I'm on the final stage before the Praetorian shows up. I did it by spamming all 6 shots on the Blackstorm. I have 2 shots now because of the Power Cell in the area, so I'm not looking forward to the Praetorian fight.

Not too many at the point you were talking about. There is like 5 in the first part when the two scions attack you. AFTER you disable the jamming signal and have to deal with the waves then it's more husks. Specifically the part you referenced there aren't THAT many husks in comparison to something like the Reaper IFF mission.

I used the platform on the left side of the area (based on when you come in), but I used an Engineer with Miranda and Grunt. When the husks appeared, I made sure everyone concentrated on a single target until it was dead based on closest husk. With focus fire you can kill almost all of them before they get up the stairs.

My allies dropped pretty quickly in this fight, but I just did laps with my soldier. I just used the shotgun mostly on the husks (with AR) and ran a lap or two until they all died, then concentrated on the scions. I don't know if storm speed really makes that big of a difference, but I was wearing the collector armor for an extra 10% (I believe I was a commando as well).
I didn't need to use any heavy weapons (well, for the entire fight really, yes on insanity), so if you're that concerned about the praetorian, you could try it. Otherwise, the praetorian isn't really that hard as there is plenty of cover.

Hey, I am getting through this level on insanity now with an infiltrator. With the first wave I was up in the truck immediately to the left. This gives you enough distance to take out most things with ease, and since everyone is in the truck you can keep an eye on them. Although the scions are still tough. After that, I went to the back wall directly opposite the truck. So, activate the PC, sit through the cut scene then run there, its an L shape barrier. So:
XT I
X I
XT C I
XXXXXX I
I = far wall
T = Team mate
C = Character/Sheppard.
X = barrier
This place is an awsome defensive posiition as husks tend to run along the barrier but not passing around it, giving you the chance to shoot them at will. I can get through this wave without a problem holding my characters in the position above. The next wave comes from the opposite end of the map from this area, and there's ammo constantly re-appearing on your side of the central area (with the pc). So I just walked around snipping the bad guys with team mates kept in the above position, the enemy will not come to your half of the map and you can get as much free ammo as you need. Its very easy with the sniper rifle. There's a lot of cover to hide behind, and you can walk up both sides to spot hidden enemies without them coming to your side of the map for some reason....
I am yet to take down the final bass, almost got him last time... Time to try again...

I was a Sentinel, that's how I got it done. With Miranda and Mordin in my squad, they would use warp and incinerate on the armor, I would throw to finish. I found a nice spot on the left if you are just walking into the area. It's along that side and it's kind of lengthy with 2 staircases. I bunkered there until the Praetorian, where I went wild with Warps and Mordin's Incinerate while running around a lot.
