I don't follow your logic, first of all I wouldn't say Shepard is exclusively American there are plenty of other non-American societies where that name wouldn't be unusual, many of them may speak English, but that doesn't make them American. 

By saying that someone from Ukraine, Mexico or China can't have that name meams that you are applying a racist slant to it and anyway, who says the human race isn't going to be a mix of ethnicities? 

As for the character, it's no different than playing Lara Croft, are the Devs racisist for making her English?  This is Shepard's story you can choose some aspects of their character and even their gender but they are still a set character.

Don't be so ridiculous.

But Shepard is an American. Default Shepard is a white man who saves the galaxy. Why can't an asian man save the galaxy?

I hope bioware being canadian, would try to sway away from just making the game acessible to americans.

I'm sure there are a few I'm missing, and there are several humans with names of non-Western origin in the novels, as well. BioWare's done a pretty decent job of incorporating various nationalities across the globe.

European =/= Western you tool. North America is part of the Western World, Russia clearly isn't.

Shepard isn't a clearly American name... it originated in England and Scotland..  in fact, the only AMERICAN names are native american ones.

If you want to play someone from Ukraine, Mexico, or China then perhaps you should play a game from or based in Ukraine, Mexico, or China.

If Bioware would just come out and admit that Shepard is a Canadian, all this "I hate anglo names because they sound American" BS would stop.

Why even bring it up. The Ambassador isn't a "White American" Anderson isn't a "white American" You can make a none white shep but who cares what the name is. Get over it. Why does everyone have to bring up race. Then they complain saying racei s a big issue even though they are the ones that brought it up.
