I've logged about 40 something hours into Mass Effect 2 and not once did I stop playing because one aspect or another wasn't fun. I completed the game. I hate the phrase "beat the game", so I will just say that I completed it. I liked the ending sequence so much I've replayed the last mission 5 times, even after completing it once.

I can't say the same thing for Mass Effect 1. I played the first couple story missions there and got bored with the game. I shelved it for 6 months before giving it another try. It turns out that Mass Effect 1 was a great game. The storyline was very engaging. Did it have flaws? Sure it did. I never played a game that didn't have flaws.

When I fired up Mass Effect 2, I was expecting a game on par or better than Mass Effect 1. I was pleasantly surprised by all the improvements. No more Omni-Gel, no more having to outfit my squad. Does it look kind of silly that I'm the only one in armor and everyone else is wearing their default outfit??  Sure it does, but it's not that big of a deal.

I love the fact that the missions are streamlined. In ME1 I couldn't tell you how many times I jumped in the Mako and drove across a planet to the ! marker only to discover I already finished that quest.. Talk about frustrating.

It's very interesting to read all the different opinions on this game, pro and con. It seems most of the venom toward the game isn't even directed at the game itself or the developer. For whatever reason people just hate EA and they think once EA gets their hands on something it is ruined. But I digress.

The main reason I like Mass Effect 2 better is there is no forced down time. Each mission is full of action. No more spending time running around the Citadel looking for things or running from point to point to talk to people. I have at least 3 hours logged in ME1 just running around doing nothing of substance. 

I guess that puts me in the minority of those people that like the scanning game.  

Mass Effect 2 is a fun game in my opinion. It deserves the ratings it has recieved. I doubt the reviewers marked it that way based on it just being an RPG or just being shooter. That would be extremely short sighted of them.

As with any game though, there is always room for improvements. I'm sure Bioware will make an amazing game to finish off the Shepard story arc, and I would not be the least bit shocked if they took some advice from their fans.
