Who do I use as the escort? What is the Distraction Team? I assume I should take my time before going through the Omega 4 relay when my crew is kidnapped. Does it matter what option I choose on Tali's loyalty mission? Why do I need to wait to recruit Zaeed till after the sucide mission? Can he not be killed on his loyalty mission prior? Who do you recomend as my first fire team leader? Who else should I take to fight the oculus with Legion? [also, thanks for all your help]

That's a lot of questions.

1. Escort - If you don't send an escort, the entire crew (including Chakwas) dies automatically. No need to take your time, just go to the Omega-4 relay whenever you're prepared.

2. Distraction Team is as listed - Garrus, Grunt (and non-loyal Zaeed in this case)

3. On the playthrough I made, don't hand over the evidence for Tali. That way, you can get the Tali/Legion argument and side with Legion (who's much better than Tali anyway).

4. Actually, you can get Zaeed if you want to. I was thinking up of another idea at the time, but you can get him, have him survive, and then kill him during the loyalty mission. (Don't let him do anything other than hold the line)

5. No one's been able to kill him on his loyalty mission before the Omega-4 relay. It's only after.

6. Anyone is fine, since Jacob is going to die regardless.

7. Anyone EXCEPT Tali. If you take Legion AND Tali, Garrus will die.

Just a question about the Garrus and Grunt distraction team. From what I’ve read the distraction team has an overall defence value with each member adding their individual defence value to the total. Guys like Grunt add in a lot and guys like Mordin adding little. If the total is not enough then one team member with the lowest defence score dies. With only Grunt and Garrus left would this be enough for both to survive?

Well, I forgot that you can still recruit Zaeed anyway and still have the same outcome.

Anyway, Grunt, Garrus and Zaeed are the best defensive people to have (and that's what you need anyway). You'll need someone with a low defense score if someone is to die (Mordin is the weakest, followed by Tali and Jack).

A non-loyal Grunt is capable of holding the line by himself, if need be.

Pure renegades don't get rewarded at all...

I thought Tali dies in a cutscene if you don't get her shield upgrade. How did she survive till near the end of the mission?

Who dies from the shield upgrade and weapon upgrade depends on who you take to the Oculus. If they're at the Oculus, they can't die from the shield upgrade.

The Priority List:

No Armor - Jack
No Shields - Legion -> Tali -> Thane -> Garrus
No Weapon - Thane -> Garrus -> Zaeed

Had a request from someone for:

only Mordin, Thane, and Morinth to live if possible

All 11 loyalty missions completed. Normal recruitment mission order.

Final Survivors: Shepard, Joker, Thane, Morinth, Mordin (Entire crew DEAD)
-----------------

Loyals: Jack, Jacob, Grunt, Garrus, Mordin, Legion
Non-loyals: Miranda, Tali, Zaeed, Samara
Normandy Upgrades: None

-Leave these quests for after the final mission:
   -Thane Recruitment
   -Thane Loyalty
   -Zaeed Loyalty
   -Samara Loyalty
-NOTE: Make sure to talk to Samara for her loyalty quest before the Omega-4 mission, but don't complete it until after; also, you might need the Paragon/Renegade import bonus from ME1 to get Morinth since you're completing it this late in the game
-Side with Jack during the Miranda/Jack fight
-Hand over the evidence and traumatize Tali for Tali's loyalty mission
-Bring Legion to fight the Oculus (so that Tali dies)
-After the final mission, recruit Thane, kill Samara off in her loyalty mission, kill Zaeed off in his loyalty mission, then do Thane's loyalty mission if you wish

Vents - Jacob (dies)

This depends on two things:
1. Grunt dying from the seeker swarms and NOT Mordin
2. Mordin dying from holding the line and NOT Jack

If either does not work:
1. Switch Mordin with Tali, Grunt gets priority here
2. Switch Samara with Jack, Samara can survive holding the line better

Hope that works.

I just found out that no one's been able to get Zaeed to die before the
loyalty mission.

1. I would suggest avoiding
recruiting Zaeed (don't go near him, it activates the cutscene) and then
try recruiting him AFTER the final mission to kill him off.

2.
If you already recruited Zaeed and you can't kill him before the
Omega-4, leave him to hold the line with Mordin/Jack or Mordin/Morinth
and hope Mordin still dies. Or just don't do Mordin's loyalty mission.

It nearly worked

All 11 loyalty missions completed.
-Sided with Jack during the Miranda/Jack fight
-Sided with Tali during
the Tali/Legion fight
-TookTali and Legion with you to fight the
Oculus (Thane and Garrus died)

Vents - Jacob (died)

Oh ! Thank you for the thread, it will make things easier. I wanted to do the same thing (only Thane and Morinth alive). The question may have been answered previously, but what if you let Grunt in the tank and sell Legion ? (isn't it worst than worst ?)

That gives them the chance of returning in ME3, since they're still alive.

Looks like im to stupid, but i cant kill zaed in his mission. i tried it with saving the hostages and without, but every dialog ends in rescuing zaeed. I cannot believe that you kill zaeed in the paragon option wich isn´t available to me...

I already noted before (and you quoted me on it) that Zaeed cannot die in his loyalty mission until after the Omega-4 relay. I had to go back and change my post, since the best way to avoid the situation you're in now is to simply not recruit Zaeed until after.

Posting here to thank ya with helping with the Jack/Morinth situation. It's gonna suck for y'all if they come up with a cure for Thane.

One other thing to take a quick note of - even if you have Mordin survive...he is 50 years old. The salarian average lifetime is ~40 years.
