What if the squad member you send back to the ship is loyal and everyone else is not?

One person in the "hold the door" squad will survive, usually the best defender (Grunt, Garrus, Thane, etc.) or whoever is left.

Wow, when that time comes you'll have to update us on how it affects ME3. This thread is awesome.

After ME3 comes out you should post results from this save. :)

So Kaidan, Liara, Morinth, and Thane are the only four people to be in a squad with evil Shepard and survive. They should get medals.

I tried for and achieved the opposite... I'm boring. I'd guess the game would keep 2 alive so you'd have a squad after the endgame.... hmmm. On the plus side in my run, I have Morinth's special on my renegade right from the start, decided she was more useful than Samara when paired with a tech (can hack pretty much any enemy that way, squishy or not). Organic meatbag FTW!

It's like you are working extra hard to doom yourself in ME3. It's going to be just you in the Normandy versus the Reaper swarm. Good times.

Thinking about that made me lol.

This playthrough is similar to what I expected the normal outcome to be. Maybe not so many deaths but it is way too easy for everyone to survive. Anyone losing more than 1 person must have rushed through the game or made lousy decisions during the endgame. A "suicide mission" should be exactly that.

Nope.

Damn, your version of Shepard makes Saren seem benign.

Hope that effort pays off in Mass Effect 3.

Or lost them due to intended choices, as I believe was what the OP wanted.

For example, one playthrough I have, even when I replay it to fix a minor issue I had (due to not realising you needed 8 members to unlock the collector ship trap mission) will still end up with 2 members dying. Simply because my Shepherd is going to not bother recruiting Tali (Shep didn't want her on the team in ME let alone ME2) and sending Legion back to Cerberus. That means no shield upgrade and no pro vent runner. It isn't a lousy choice, it all falls down to a RP choice in this instance.

Interesting to know that you don't need any loyal members in your final battle team for shep to survive as long as got a loyal person alive. Although find it odd if that thing about at least one non-loyal member surviving if have a loyal one is true. Have you done that on a few playthroughs to confirm it?

It's possible to end the mission with only Shepard himself (and Joker, I assume) remaining. I've got my room mate's save with this result on our shared PC, I'll explain the method below.
(Note: To whom it may concern, he and I both have ME2 and DA keys, as well as seperate Cerberus net keys)

Have 2* loyal squad members for the final mission. Garrus + Thane for example.
Lose Garrus at the end of the tunnel.
Make the worst possible choices from here on out, make Thane your biotic shield.
Final boss, take Thane and one non-loyal crew member.

Now...

Assuming that everyone else died holding the door (or escorting crew, if applicable), as they *should* do...
The only person to survive the boss fight with you *should* be Thane...
Thane *should* take a bullet to the face while helping you onto the ship.

I love that this ending is possible. You cannot go on a mission with fewer than 2 other characters in any ME game, so the fact that it's possible to lose everybody but Shep and then import your save *MUST* mean that two new crew members (at least) are incoming for ME3.

My optimistic guess? Surviving ME1 human and (darkened) Liara. Yes please!

I never managed to get anyone from my squad killed in the suicide mission and I've beaten the game 3 times now. Then again I always upgrade everything and do all the loyalty quests.

I actually tried to do this the first time with loyal Garrus, and a non-loyal member from the door holding squad always ends up surviving (in my case, Samara).

Yes, I know that's what the OP wanted, but quite a few players had a heavy (unintentional) death toll. Not everyone will take time doing every aspect of the game - loyalty missions, collecting upgrades, etc. They may not even care who lives or dies. But playing the game carefully it's almost impossible to lose more than a couple of guys.

I'm a big wuss who struggles to make unkind choices. ME2 is no exception, and my saves have all been squeeky clean 12 survivor runs. Nevertheless, I'm tempted to have a go myself. All I know is that whoever helps you onto the ship is supposed to take a bullet to the face for their trouble. I don't understand why a disloyal character would survive it. =(

So basically Shepherd can go into the suicide mission with just 8 people and only 1 loyal and he'll come out the other end?

I wanna see this ending where the only other survivor takes a bullet for Shep, Video or it never happened ;)

Actually, one death can equal another... as in getting someone killed can trigger the final random death
